I have changed my review because the branch has consistently met my needs recently. Tellers are friendly. 7PM hours of operation service is a great thing!

Nice and friendly staff usually not too busy.

Scotiabank has had my business for a long time, and I like them. Two things really upset me. First they keep moving my personal banking officers around...and unfortunately my last one was from another country and I couldn't understand her! BUT the biggest peeve I have is not being able to phone the bank number and talk to a live person. As others have said, the phone answering system is abominable and extremely frustrating. In this age when banks are trying so hard with different strategies and call-backs to find out how pleased you are with your visit and your service....they need to look at their contact system - specifically the phone....and give their head a shake. My time is precious...your phone system sucks the life out of me........

HORRIBLE BANK!!!!!!! Do NOT deal with ANY Scotiabank branch. The tellers are useless, unpleasant, slow and very unknowledgeable. I brought in a bank draft and they've been holding the funds for a week now. I was told they would call and fax the bank that the draft came from and the funds would be released immediately, well a week later and Scotiabank has done NOTHING to confirm the funds are in the other account, they've done NOTHING to speed up the process.
Seriously regretting put my accounts and mortgage with Scotia. I will be moving EVERYTHING as soon as I possibly can. I called Scotia to see what the process was for closing my accounts and the girl was SO UNHELPFUL and UNPROFESSIONAL I couldn't even believe I was speaking to a rep from a bank. She basically said I can't do anything until they decide to release my funds, when I asked when that would be, she said she can't tell me, she doesn't know what to say because there is nothing she can do.
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you're looking for a migraine every time you need to do your banking.

UPDATE: closed all my accounts and my visa and they charged me just over $100 to do it. Nothing owing on the visa and money in the account. Everything was in good standing.

Nice people but seriously under staffed. And don't even try to call them. No ability to call the branch unless you have an extension. No customer service available unless you call the 1-800 number in Toronto or somewhere like that then it is voice recognition hell! Absolutely no customer service on the phone. Typical big bank experience: "you don't matter, we're saving $12 an hour for a receptionist and you can struggle with a machine voice phone system from the east".
That's what a monopoly get us. Maybe credit unions will be better. Goodbye.
