... Questions
1. How long have you been in the food industry?
I’ve been in this industry for over 20 years and it has been very good to me. I’ve been able to make a good living and raise a beautiful family because of it.
2. What makes a good waiter?
A good waiter consists of being 100% organized and attentive but most importantly, you have to be friendly. Also, the ability to be like a ninja, knowing when to appear and when to disappear is essential lol.
3. What is the best part of being a waiter at SPK?
I love working there because of the longtime friendships I have with the staff and the regulars. Being able to serve quality food in a quality establishment while having the support and respect of the owners is a great privilege.
4. Favourite Memory at SPK?
My favourite memories of SPK are taking care of wedding receptions. Being able to contribute to their special day by providing them with good service and good food and seeing them have a blast has always been very gratifying.

The Perfect Antipasto!!! This platter is one of our menu's newest features!
This is my where I took my lady on our first date and it's been "our place" since. Outstanding food and people. Their tenderloin and pasta is one of the best I've ever had. They'll still make my alla olio for me ! Great people !
There isn't a week that goes by that I miss a meal at SPK. Food is delicious and the service is excellent.
The food was absolutely amazing and reasonably priced based on the quality and portion size. The designer martinis were a bit pricey but the taste and presentation made up for the cost.
Our waitress was delightful. She offered suggestions and was very attentive.
The decor is urban chic and created a very relaxing ambience.
Service was exceptional and the food was fabulous and arrived hot. To give you an idea how good the service was, we got drinks, appetizers, main meal for 8 people and left within one and a half hours and the place was packed and had a chance to make the ESO Christmas Concert in plenty of time. Not only that we throw a curve ball at the Waiter and asked him to split the bill four different ways and was able to do it with a smile. Keep up the great work gang!
SPK or "Frank's place" as I like to call it is without a doubt one of the best places in Edmonton for great service, great value and great food. A staple for a special occasion, a casual lunch and a great meal. 10 thumbs up!
One of my favourite places. Love the gorgonzola mussels--so yummy! Reasonably-priced wine list, great menu, and the service is always friendly and professional.
It was great. We have lived in the area for many years and it is always a pleasure to go to the SPK. Their Caesar salad is perfect and the pasta is always tasty and comforting. We love it!
Great food!!! Great service!!! Rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage and tomato sauce. And for dessert Nutella filled sugar doughnuts with whipped cream, best dessert ever.
Enjoyed our dinner last night with my friends, not surprised that the food was great and our waiter Fernando was excellent! Great appetizers and meal topped off with the Nutella style ball 5 stars for sure, never disappointed.
Amazing food! The Manzo main dish is to die for..
SPK has always been one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton. However, I happened to be there Monday when the new menu debuted and was really disappointed. Quite a few pastas including the Linguine Di Mare and Penne Gorgonzola (two of my faves) were removed. Parmesan is no longer available. Apparently they put some sort of cheese in it when they cook it? I didn't notice, and missed the parm. Also, I hope the sauce for the Linguine Granchio wasn't tampered with and maybe I just had a new cook that night...but it was slightly brownish, very runny and tasteless compared to usual. Prices have also been hiked up.
Decided to go our to a new restaurant for date night and chose to go here. Loved the feel and look of the decor and ambiance. Our waitress was very polite, helpful with the menu and the patio was a delight for a warm evening! The only thing that threw me off was the wine selection seem minimal for an Italian restaurant and only 3 types of red/white available by the glass. You could only buy a full bottle of the other selections. I found the wine prices extremely high for the brand available based on my experience at many other restaurants in the city. All in all - I we would still go again. Best to go with a group to enjoy a bottle with.
my Vitello was greasy, oily with no lemon taste at all. disappointed in this $30 main course. mussels were good but soaked in a tomato base sauce so not too tasty. service was excellent!
The service was extremely slow. When we were still waiting for our main courses after 50 minutes we asked for the manager. He, pretty much exploded on us. Told us it wasn't a fast food restaurant and wanted to offer to buy his dessert. We explained we were not looking for free food, we just wanted to get our food.
It's been a long time since I've been to this restaurant. After this experience I definitely won't be coming back. It's sad when such a landmark restaurant goes to this level...
The food is good, a bit skimpy on the amount of seafood in my dish though. The way they handle kitchen mistakes lacks professional finesse. The bottom of my daughter's pizza was burned black, you could smell the char when she turned pieces over. They replaced the pizza, but for the first time in my dining experiences, we were not offered any compensation for the inconvenience. Anywhere else would have taken the price of the pizza off the bill. I wrote to the restaurant and was offered an apology and nothing more. My family and I won't be back.
I hosted a 20 person birthday party here... the service was good and food was decent except for one thing. A few days before I called in and asked if their pizza dough was made in-house and if they were able to rearrange the pizza into letters to spell the name of the birthday boy. They said that it was doable with limited toppings so I agreed to the price that was on their menu. When the 5 pizzas came out, each letter was so tiny that one pizza wasn't even a decent appetizer for one person. It seemed like they made all the letters with one pizza dough serving. When they presented me the cheque it was $104.55 and automatically included gratuity. My friends and I were appalled at the amount and the waitress even agreed that I was being overcharged for the tiny pizzas they served us. She offered to give me 2 free pizzas the next time I came in but there was no way I was coming back after this to give them more business and exposure after ripping me off. Anyways, I appreciated their accommodation to my request so I just paid for it and wasn't going to write any kind of review anywhere until they had the audacity to advertise the custom pizza on their Instagram. I commented on it that I was not happy I had to pay more than $100 for the tiny pizzas and they deleted the post. I don't want anyone to be enticed to order this custom pizza and have the establishment overcharge them for it like they did to me. If the pizza was a decent size, then I would have been content with paying what they charged me but it wasn't. Needless to say, my friends and I have agreed to never go back.
had friends go there to be rushed out, they had a birthday party and you would not even let the elders have desert and coffee, way to do a business.
This restaurant put some awfully putrid mussels on my pasta! And it wasn't that bad if the waitress whom I told her about that just accepted it as it should be! I expected something like a sorry or explanation. But none came out! Poor food and service, I must say!
