About Silken Photography By Design

Photographer, Digital Designer & Retouchist-- Portraits, Fashion, Beauty, Boudoir, Scenery, with a little dabble of New Borns, Wedding & Dog Photography.

Silken Photography By Design Description

I named my business "Silken Photography by Design" because my name Silken is different and very unique and Photography by Design means to me that I combined the elements of design (lines, shapes, mass or size, texture, colour, form, space, value - lightness or darkness) into my photos. Plus by also being a Graphic Artist I am able to give my clients more than just photos for an even better experience with me.

Photography Fields:
- Portraits (engagements & couples, etc. )
- Fashion (artistic)
- Scenery (Canmore /Banff)
- Pets (mostly dogs)

*endeavour into Conceptual, Boudoir & Wedding Photography*

- Edmonton Digital Arts College (formally known as Guru Edmonton Digital Arts College)
- MC College
- The Art Gallery of Alberta’s Cloud 9 Refinery Party
- Allied Beauty Association Hair and Makeup Show
- Each year I donate my talents in photography at an annual charity event for Dogs With Wings Assistance Dog Society.

Why I choose to shoot in RAW vs. JPEG. . .

RAW

PROS!

-“Uncooked” file – there is no contrast or sharpness or anything added to the image when it is taken: it is captured as-is. There is no image compression.

-Since it’s “uncooked” you have much more freedom & flexibility when editing the files, especially when adjusting the white balance temperature and /or exposure.

-If you made a mistake with white balance or exposure, it’s much easier to correct (however, this is not a get out of jail free card! It can’t completely fix an image, but it gives you much more hope than if it was a JPEG).

-Most pro photographers shoot in RAW for the ability to have more freedom when editing the photos.

CONS!

-The file WILL need to be processed further, even if to only change it to a JPEG file. RAW files end up as . CR2 (Canon) or . NRF (Nikon) so if you want to make prints from RAW files, you will first need to transfer into the universal file, . jpg

-Huge file size! Get ready to get more memory cards & have lots of hard drive space
-Since the files are larger, they can take longer to download & transfer

-You need to have software that can read & edit RAW files, so make sure to check your software compatibility with test files before making the jump. Lightroom & Photoshop are great programs that can most likely handle your RAW files, but just double check with your software version & camera files for compatibility before taking important photos in RAW.

JEPG

PROS!

-Smaller file size: saves space on memory cards & computer hard drives

-Faster loading times

-Universal file format

-A few settings are applied to the image when it is compressed into a . jpg file, so there’s no need to edit it if you want a very quick & easy file to work with

-Ready to print, no further need to process

CONS!

-Less freedom & flexibility if you want to edit your photos

-If you’re in-camera exposure isn’t perfect or near-perfect, there’s less ability to work with the file & salvage it

-Less creative control in post-processing

Long story short, shoot in RAW for important shoots that you want the ability to have full control over when editing the files. If you want to put your memory card straight into a printer or not have to worry about file compatibility & editing, then shoot in JPEG. JPEG is less maintenance, but less creative control than RAW.

This was my first attempt at Boudoir Photography... I can honestly say I had a lot of fun doing this shoot :)
I feel boudoir isn't just about an excuse to wear sexy lingerie but it's to make women feel empowered and beautiful in their own skin no matter there shape or size or the size of their boobs or butt - Woman need to feel beautiful in every-way possible.
WARNING : Some photos may contain nudity ;)
... I provided some B&W photo options.
Enjoy!
