This was our go to brunch in town...Use to be really good before they moved the brunch to the south side entry. Not sure why it suddenly changed so much but now food is off (in different ways depending in what food item you might want to talk about)... I've been disappointed last 4 times I've gone in last 2 years. I keep returning because it was chosen by friends who remember it being really good in the past too. Now I stay with omelette station only thing still reliably good.

Please note this review is for the brunch! We went here for the Sunday brunch and it honestly tasted like a restaurant not wanting to spend money. The "taco lasagna" was as dry as the tortilla chips inside it. There were only 2 shrimps in the whole seafood section and most of the mussels shells were not open and they tasted frozen. The salad bar was obviously store bought mixes and many dishes were too. I would appreciate home made food. The juice was terrible. The reason I gave 1 star is because we came here a few years ago and the service and food was much better.

Went to Smugglers last Sunday to celebrate my dad's 82 birthday. Used the online booking system. It worked great since we did need the reservation - Sundays are busy! The staff were very attentive and quick. We were promptly seated as soon as we walked in. Food was good, We had the Sunday prime rib special. $30 for the soup + salad bar + prime rib (large cut) potatoes + roasted veggies + yorkshire pudding + desert. Great bang for the buck. My elderly parents had a bit of difficulty reading the menu in the low-lit dinning area. Everything was great except for the child having a melt down in the party of 6 near us. There was a party of 4 right near the screaming child. I felt terrible for the party as they were celebrating a significant anniversary. The parents of the screaming child did little to nothing to calm the child. The manager took matters into her own hands and got staff to pack up the party of 6. Kudos to the manager!

My boyfriend and I went out here for a date night and were dissaponited. I got a large order of ribs and he got chicken. The dishes were cold and quite bland. The veggies were cold. The bread, soup and salad bar was mediocre. For the price, we were really unhappy with the quality of food provided. Swiss Chalet would have been a much better deal. We would never recommend this place over all the other wonderful, reasonably priced places in Calgary. Will never return.

Smugglers is a Calgary institution, but is starting to show it's age. You can get a great cut of steak, or their specialty prime rib and you will probably be satisfied. It's just that there are definitely better places to go for a high end experience and a prime cut of meat. One thing I will say is that the pricing at smugglers is fair.

Smugglers doesn't feel that fancy anymore. The 70's decor and vibe is kinda played out. This place still conjures fond memories for most locals and I think the nostalgia, along with the good value/service and prime location keep people coming back.

You will still hear old timers say that Smugglers is the best place in the city for steak, but I honestly think it's because they haven't been anywhere else. Smugglers is delicious and my even be great in the eyes of many, but it's no longer exceptional in a market like modern Calgary. There are just too many other world class steak experiences available. This is why Smugglers gets 4 stars instead of 5.

We're from out of town, but visit Calgary at least once a year. Each time we visit, we ALWAYS eat at Smuggler's Inn. We've been eating there since 2003, when my wife and I were in our 20s, and we now have 2 children aged 6 and 9 who also enjoy going there (my son is particularly fond of the mac and cheese)! Very friendly atmosphere, cozy setting, and the salad bar is great. The last time we were there in August 2017, we had phenomenal service (my kids were a little chilly in the restaurant and were offered blankets to keep them warm!). Of course, they're known for their prime rib, and ounce per dollar, the value is good without compromising quality. We will most definitely be back!

I have been coming back over and over again since I was a child. It is a mainstay for meeting with family, friends and clients.

Their prime rib is always superb and well complimented with the new fresh salad bar as well as soup bar too.

On Sundays there is a fantastic brunch buffet with so many items that it would be unlikely to sample them all. Of course they also serve their famous prime rib during the brunch as well as fresh made omelets.

The staff here is always friendly and very professional. They know all the items backwards and forwards. The management here is obviously top notch as it doesn't matter the day or time, you always get the same wonderful service.

Apparently I used to come here as a child but I don't recall! First time back as an adult and was impressed. Restaurant is dark but your eyes adjust quickly. Ribs we had for appies were quiet salty, this would be part of the reason for the lack of 5 stars. The salad bar was great, had the Portuguese Soup.....LOVED IT!! Meals were HUGE, have meals for tomorrow too! Food was a little bland but only a little. Had the coconut creme brulee....yum....big too, the three of us should have shared one! Great thing you don't find often, the food they have is pretty much the same since they opened!! Why change a good thing!

Great atmosphere, wait staff, manager and food. This restaurant has a pirate theme atmosphere yet formal. The salad bar is amazing!

February 3, 2017 6 of us went in for dinner. I ordered an 8oz fillet medium rare. It came out twice medium well and the third time medium. All my coworkers were done their meals so I ate part of the medium steak. The manager came to the table no compensation was offered. A complaint on their Facebook page was made and an email address was provided. To date NO COMPENSATION has been given. The least they could do was refund the money for my steak dinner. Don't bother going because they a obviously don't care what their customers think.

Excellent place, atmosphere is superb and a unique gem within Calgary. Priced slightly higher than your normal fare the quality of food and service well justifies the premium. Quieter atmosphere, where I've seen children in here i would not call it family friendly. More of the romantic wats or outing with that someone special.

Even though my steak came out over cooked the waiter was polite and they quickly fixed the problem. Once the steak was cooked right it was beyond delicious. Melt in your mouth. Finished with the coconut creme brule which was also amazing. I will be back and recommend. Make a reservation however.
