Whoopsies...we have puppies! 🤭
Normally our puppy announcements aren’t lead by a whoopsies - this is because we carefully plan any litters we breed and we of course share this information right here with our supporters! Everyone follows along with the pregnancy and even the delivery.
Well, this time it was a whoopsies - an accidental breeding that took! 🤦🏻‍♀️... Proud daddy Baron sealed the deal with mumma Ferrari on December 19th and 3 weeks ago, we confirmed with our vet that she was indeed pregnant after an ultrasound.
Now, this isn’t a common occurance for us. 85% of our pack is neutered and spayed to avoid this very issue! Back at our kennel facility, we have two separate sections of our kennel. One that houses our females and the other, our males. So while we do keep select males and females intact for breeding, we are very careful to ensure that unplanned breedings are rare and hopefully never happen. On site, females in heat are wearing red bandanas so that our team knows not to put any intact males near them. But this time, all it took was one brief moment of forgetfulness and Baron was on the fast track to becoming a dad again!
Sweet Ferrari delivered her puppies on Saturday, February 16th and is the proud mumma of 5 girls and 3 boys!
So...any theme ideas for these sweet little darling? 🤔

Many of you might not know this fellow as he is certainly one of our most introverted husky heroes in the pack! ☺️
This is Nome! He is a very shy guy who reserves his adorable cuddles for a select few of our senior team. This handsome sir is very hardworking and focused - he loves joining us on our longer tours and really seems to prefer getting into the backcountry. No surprise there given his independence and shy nature, he feels most comfortable away from the crowds!
Comment and share your photos if you have met Nome!

Some of the metal band boys crusin’ our half day trail the other day! Conditions are amazing and with all the snow in the forecast, they’re about to get a whole lot better! 🤘🏼

One of our top leaders - Suspect aka: Sussy
A real sir and gentleman. Suspect is a jack of all trades and can run any where in the team but as a leader, he is exceptional.
Suspect comes from our oldest Canadian Indian husky lines which we acquired in the late 1980’s. Suspect is a 6th generation lead dog - just like most every husky heroes that hails from these lines! Leadership runs in the family!
... Comment and post your picture if you have met Suspect!

Our tours are a go for tomorrow with the exception of our 9am - it will still be much too cold by then however, things are looking chilly but safe for tours by 11am!
Those of you joining us tomorrow, please make sure you dress appropriately!
Here are some photos of our pack playing and stay toasty warm today!

User

Come on by and say hi! Carlin will be brining some of our arctic breeds down for a visit! It’s much too cold to do any racing but these fluffy brutes will be happy to visit even in -25C!

User

Sadly we have had to cancel our tours today. Our Director of Operations, Ethan Kimble assessed our trail head temperature this morning. Currently onsite it is -38C including the windchill. Brrrrrr...
In these temperatures it is simply too unsafe to operate our tours. Frostbite is a serious risk today and we of course will never compromise our guests, instructors or husky heroes. Our guest experience is also so important to us and we know that offering tours in such cold ...weather is no fun for anyone.
Here are the links to the three different weather sites we use but the most accurate option is for us to drive to our staging area ourselves!
We are sorry to everyone who we had to cancel today.
Stay warm everyone!

Brrrrrrrrrrr!
More extreme cold warnings are in effect for the town of Canmore and our trail head in Kananaskis. Sadly, if the temperatures forecasted for Saturday, Sunday and Monday are accurate, our tours will likely not move forward. Those of you with bookings for this weekend, please contact our office if you have any questions/concerns.
Mother Nature is really laying the “stone cold” smack down on us this February! 🥶

All the feels...☺️

User

Thank you Angela & family for all your kind words! 🙌🏼☺️

Guys! Our trail is epic right now! Lots of snow and we are forecasted to have some pretty nice blue bird days with one snow day in the forecast as well! Yesterday we ran our 1pm tour and it went from -33C in the morning to -22C by 1pm! It was a a wonderful tour and we are so happy we made the call to move all our guests from 11am to 1pm!
This morning it’s -26C at our trail head and warming up fast! We are continuing our free rental items to ensure that our participants are comfortable and warm for their tours!

User

Exciting news! The Extreme Cold Weather Warning has ended! For now... fingers and paws crossed for the upcoming snow in the forecast and those temperatures are looking mighty fine to us! Friday & Saturday look a tad chilly but lets hope it warms up a tad :)
Please be advised that the temperature can change at any given moment, and that the temperature up at our dog sledding site is typically colder as its higher in elevation.
Please take the time to read our WHAT TO WEAR gu...ide on our website, with the direct link below!

As most of you are aware, the weather the last couple of days has been just a tad chilly... thanks Mother Nature! If you are worried about a scheduled tour coming up, be sure to check the weather the day of your tour, and visit our website page 'What To Wear' for help!

Here are a few of our staff members over the last few days ❄️😂🌨 #frozenselfie

Based on the forecast, yesterday we decided to move all our guests from our morning tour to our 1pm tour to ensure that as long as the temperature cooperated, we will be able to do some do dog sledding today!
Currently, it’s looking good! We will be driving up to our dog sledding site to check on the temperature before we load our pack to be certain the temperatures are safe!
Should our tour move forward today, we will be offering free rental items for our guests!

User

Well it has warmed up to a -38C windchill compared to the -44C windchill this morning! We figured the dogs would love some play time in the sun this afternoon and they most certainly did! After 1.5 hours of play, they were ready to head back to their home for their next souping which was quickly followed by snuggling back up into their cozy houses!

User

😂🙄
That feeling you get when you try so hard to make sure your pack is staying warm enough and this is what some of them end up doing!
Everyone, meet Khaki! A very enthusiastic, fun loving, playful and energetic sweetheart all the way from Alaska! Khaki is a former Iditarod sled dog who joined our family this summer! A very hard driving lady with a heart of pure gold. She certainly fits into our family perfectly along with her sister Lace and brother Burlap!
... So what does Khaki think of Canada’s extreme cold weather warning? Apparently its no big deal for this little dynamo! She insists on pulling out all her straw from her insulated dog house, making a nest infront of her house and then removing her cold weather jacket! Well, at least it’s all there for her to use if she wants!
We love you Khaki and all your silly antics! 🐾🥰

snowy owl doggie tours was our highlight too Canada - I’m glad we did the half day tour - something super special - shout out to all the tour guides & all the hard working doggies on the scene - wonderful job & thankyou for sharing an unforgettable memory with us ... priceless - J&A xx

User

Would highly recommend this to anyone in the area. We traveled from Kansas and had this recommended to us. So glad someone recommended this to us as we planned our trip.

Snowy Owl operation is exceptionally run from start to finish. The staff is very friendly, wonderful to work with and excellent with questions and information. After meeting the various dogs and a short tutorial on mushing, we were off on our sleds through the gorgeous Canadian Rockies mountains, across a beautiful lake and back to camp for a campfire snack and drink.

WONDERFUL adventure.

User

We loved it so much. The most enjoyable winter activity we have had so far! Our 2 year old son enjoyed it as well. Thanks to everyone working there, specially our guide Aaron who did an awesome job and took some wonderful pics for us. We will definitely recommend " Snowy Owl" for our family and friends!

User

We had the most wonderful time during our trip. The staff was friendly and took good care of us especially our driver Daniel and our guide Elsa. You can tell the dogs are excellently cared for and that they enjoy doing these runs. The experience was worth every penny!

User

We had an absolutely fantastic time with Snowy Owl. It will be the absolute highlight of our trip to Canada. Canmore also holds a special place in our hearts as my husband and I were married here almost 12 years ago. We are very grateful for the opportunity to experience the Canadian Rockies with you and your dogs. The dogs are obviously very happy and healthy. We would recommend this experience to everyone. A great family activity.

User

We had an absolute blast dog sledding, definitely a ‘once in a lifetime’ kind of experience and well worth the money. The crew is really knowledgeable and obviously love their dogs. They take the time to explain everything to you, give you time to pat your dogs, and are more than willing to answer any of your questions. Dogs and breath taking scenery, what’s not to love?

User

We had a beautiful fun exciting day on wed 21st. We were lucky to have the sun shining and not too cold. We had one instructor sled and one self driven sled for our family of 5! It was so much fun. Loved the dogs. Wanted to take a few home. The staff are amazing and it’s well worth every penny. Memories made for forever!

User

Such an incredible experience! Everyone was so helpful when it came to booking in the tour, and when the day of our tour came all the staff were so friendly and amazing. You can tell the dogs are all loved and taken care of. I couldn't recommend Snowy Owls more highly.

User

My family and I enjoyed this activity. My husband had a chance to drive the dog sled with my two boys and me on the sled. My boys had so much fun. The dogs looked like they were having fun, too. The guides were very good with instructions and very caring to the dogs. The cuddle time with the dogs made the activity so much more worthwhile.

Just back from Canmore, went Dog Sledding with Snowy Owl......it was awesome! Very cool adventure on the mountain trails on the snowy trails and across Spray Lake,,, the dogs are so loving and damn cute, so friendly and love hugs🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️❤️❤ ️❤️ the staff are friendly and our guide Ian was great! It was snowing and the scenery was so pretty... got to ride in sled and also drive sled!!!! The best..Snowy Owl also supplies proper clothing for a small fee (UGGS! awww....no!) great adventure for the whole family...plan on visiting Snowy Owl Kennels in the summer to see the husky puppies......

User

I was thrilled with our two hour dog sledding ride last week, we all enjoyed it very much, an amazing experience with wonderful dogs and a great guide. We learned so much about the huskies as well and I was impressed by the adoption or rehoming program for the dogs when they retire. Just when I thought the dogs must be tired towards the end of our 10k trail, our guide asked the dogs to move up a couple of gears and they really flew! Such amazing strength and stamina these dogs have and how gentle they are when being fussed. A great experience. 😊

User

I had been looking forward to dog sledding the most when we started planning this trip 6 months ago. Our experience with Snowy Owl was amazing and met every expectation. I cannot say enough words about how great the staff was, doggies included. Every employee we came in contact with was knowledgeable, organized, and friendly. We loved our adventure from start to finish and hope to be back to visit someday!

User

I did the 4 hr tour with my parents this past Tuesday. We had so much fun!! We were the only group doing the 4 hr tour, so my mom was riding in the front sledge driven by our guide Jules, and my dad was riding in the back sledge driven by me the whole time ;) The trails were absolutely beautiful. I especially love how it eventually opened up to the lake. Magnificent! I always wanted to experience dog sledding ever since I watched Eight Below 11 years ago. This was more than I expected. Mushing was more technical than I thought, but it definitely got easier as you got the hang of it. Our guide Jules was awesome! She talked me through the uphills, downhills, corners, and that interesting U-turn.... Special thanks to my team Benelli, Tug, Mantra, Jasper and Kootenay, and Jules' team Trott, Mackey, Katana, Alora?, Taika, Bambam, Toggle and Thunderbird! Don't know if I spelled the names right.... We loved petting and cuddling with these sweet dogs! I especially love my beautiful girl Benelli!!! I would love to come back one day to do the full day or two day tour with my husband. Thank you so much Snowy Owl for making my dream come true.

User

Had the most amazing day with the Snowy Owl team and their dogs! Very friendly and professional from start to finish, and the whole day was planned well and ran smoothly.

Myself and my partner opted for the guest driven sled; and after a quick introduction to mushing we had a spectacular sled ride through the woods and across a stunning frozen lake where we stopped for some photos and to swap drivers (good thing too - I was knackered after all that running up hill with the sled!). After that it was a fun ride back to base for some cuddle time with the dog team, followed by hot apple cider and muffins (delicious!!) around the campfire.

Best day ever! I want to do it again!!

User

Had a trip there yesterday to meet the dogs and it was really good. Dogs are very friendly and well cared for. Staff also friendlt and guide knew them all by name.

User

Great experience for the entire family. Kids got to drive the sled for a little and everyone at snowy owl did a great job making sure we had a great experience. Highly recommend taking half a day to enjoy the tour. We did the 2 hr tour and that was enough for our 7 and 10 year old.

User

Did the summer kennel tour today and loved it. In an unregulated industry these guys are doing it right! Thanks for a great morning!

User

Amazing day visiting the kennels! The dogs were just beautiful and the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable! Would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Banff area!

User

Absolutely the best owners and staff in the world. I was going thru a very ruff dark time in my life. After spending time with the 170 plus dogs is a great way to a start my journey in a more positive lifestyle. Thank you

I will never forget that day!

Had a trip there yesterday to meet the dogs and it was really good. Dogs are very friendly and well cared for. Staff also friendlt and guide knew them all by name.

Great experience for the entire family. Kids got to drive the sled for a little and everyone at snowy owl did a great job making sure we had a great experience. Highly recommend taking half a day to enjoy the tour. We did the 2 hr tour and that was enough for our 7 and 10 year old.

Did the summer kennel tour today and loved it. In an unregulated industry these guys are doing it right! Thanks for a great morning!

Absolutely the best owners and staff in the world. I was going thru a very ruff dark time in my life. After spending time with the 170 plus dogs is a great way to a start my journey in a more positive lifestyle. Thank you

I will never forget that day!
