I called to ask about rates and they gave me the run around insisting that I come in and make an appointment. I found it so weird that they couldn't even give me a ballpark for the monthly fees even though I asked repeatedly and stated she was turning me off from joining that gym.

Before buying a membership, I was worried by the number of bad reviews I read about SpaLady. Now it's the fifth month since my first visit. I attend group classes at SpaLady Westbrook, and I would like to thank the awesome instructors Kavita, Michelle, Sarah, Becky, Jacqui. These girls are working hard together with you, keep you motivated, encouraging, and helping you. Their classes are always fun and an excellent work-out. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Extremely disappointed with SpaLady. When I first signed up I was told the only requirement to cancel is 30 days notice. I decided to part ways with my membership, gave my trainer notice and called the front desk to make sure I was okay to cancel, the lady said yes and confirmed over the phone that only 30 days written notice is required. I showed up to the gym a couple days later to provide written notice and was greeted with a $103.95 processing fee for cancellation. The cancellation couldn't be processed without this payment so in order to avoid another lapse on the biweekly payment cutoff I reluctantly paid the fee. I was given the rest of my payment schedule at that time and was told the last payment wouldn't come out as I had already paid that fee (user fees) when I initially signed up ?? I confirmed with my personal trainer that I was entitled to another 5 training sessions for the remainder of my month and we planned the dates of those sessions together. 3 weeks later I'm arriving at the gym for session 3/5 to and was told I owe another $58 and was denied access to the gym unless I pay it. (By the way, I'm entitled to another 10 days at the gym before my membership fully expires.) The very rude young lady at the front desk said they 'don't always go over the extra fees during the original consultation process but they usually do'. I was not once told about a cancellation fee, user fees, training fees, and whatever other fees they now want to charge me for, but I do find it very convenient these things come to light only now that I'm parting ways. I've encouraged so many women in my circle to sign up for a membership with spa lady but will be sure to retract any positive comments I've had and will instead enlighten people on spa lady's unethical business practice. The parking stalls are either too narrow (lots of dents on my new car to show for it), or no parking spaces at all, poor air quality, filthy equipment, and lack of locations around the city. I tried the Westbrook location a number of times, there is never enough space to either park or work out there. Do yourself a favour, save yourself the headache and do not sign up with spa lady!

I signed up for spa lady telling them that I would be leaving by the end of the summer so I will need to cancel. The employee told me that was fine and I could cancel any time. Well here I am cancelling paying a fee because she signed me up for a 12 month gym membership when I specifically told her I was leaving in three months.

Gave it a 2 because staff was super nice and helpful. But the gym is poorly set up equipment wise. Alot of small dumbbells which is great but only one cable machine and one squat rack. So if you dont mind waiting for machines for 20 mins. It just wasnt suited towards my workouts.

Holy wow talk about discrimination! I have been a member twice with this gym. The first time for many years but moved to BC for awhile, I came back and decided to become a member again ONLY because it was close. As far a gym I find the workers unfriendly snobby, not much visual motivation...its full of older women who stand around yapping instead of working out. You'll find majority have no gym etiquette....weights not put back, standing in front of you so you can no longer see your form. I've even had what I called the "old lady bully group" stand within inches on me while I stretch so when I do a stretch move I would actually be touching them and there's plenty of room for these ladies to move but they don't...they just stand there yapping. Other than that theres a huge lack of good equipment.

So I've been going for a long time due to purely location and been practicing my martial arts drills in my bare feet...this is how I train at the martial arts place I go to. Keep in mind when I also practice yoga I also take off my shoes. Never has there been an issue until today. I was asked to put on my shoes and I told the manager no. I'm not on a cardio machine and I'm not lifting weights nor am I in anyone's way or doing anything risky. I'm doing simple drills like spiderman push-ups, rolls hip escapes, bridges...all very simple and safe movements. As I told her no I will not put on my shoes since I haven't when I've done yoga for many months on a daily basis she proceeds to look me in the eye with a condescending smirk on her face and tells me its a rule.

I asked if it's a written rule, she said no just a verbal one. That's correct its NOT a rule & NOT written down anywhere. She says its up to her discretion..... Yeah so it's all a control issue for her. She's one of those snobby jealous women that's purely hating on other women. Making up rules as she likes to. As I clarified it's not an actual rule and there is no dress code she continues with her arrogant smirk on her face telling me it's a safety issue. Keep in mind I wasn't using weights or machines and how does wearing shoes actually prevent an injury if a weight falls on you? Really a running shoe is going to provide a safe barrier against feet? Wow I have heard of stupid things out of people's mouth but the manager really took the cake. So as I tell her then I don't want to be a member she tells me I have to pay $100 plus another month's fee...talk about scamming. On top of all that the trainers aren't even in shape and they get paid to get others in shape? They get their education from Canfit which is the "Walmart" of training education. The turn over rate is very high new workers all the time because the smart ones quite. I told the manager I video taped her BS and she didn't like it so I reminded her I didn't like being told I can't train the way I want and told that a verbal rule is acceptable, even though it's not a rule and not written down.

I called head office and again they were useless too. Telling me it's not a mma or boxing gym....as I laughed I said yeah I know I wasn't sparring I was doing drills like yoga...its called FITNESS and you do have heavy bags and teach boxersize or whatever that non sense is. So I told the person look its not a rule and its discrimination, I wanted to leave the gym anyways because the ladies that work there do nothing but walk around staring giving dirty looks & I don't have time for insecure girls. Said I will take my business else where. So I called Goodlife and they have ZERO issues with me practicing BJJ drills with NO shoes. Actually they have an area the fitness room for things like that.

So thank you Spalady for showing how unprofessional and piss-poor your gym is. As it seems from the other endless negative reviews this is an ongoing issue. You are losing customers like flies dropping and there are plenty of other gyms....you put a dent into my morning but not my training.

Nothing but a sales grab. The trainers will do anything to meet their session quotas for the month and the management are deceitful upon sign up. They make it seem as though you are receiving a great deal, but end up paying an arm and a leg anyway in the long run. The floor is over run with training sessions and the trainers make you feel bad for getting in their way. It's not a peaceful place to workout as the staff is quite catty with gossip. Anyone I know who have also worked out at this facility would say the same thing. Do not go here!

I was a member here for a few years and really, for the price of ~$30/month you get a great gym. It does get crowded and the parking lot gets full. It's an all women gym and that was a plus for me.

I wanted to love it, but it gets so crowded that it actually discouraged me from going. And then the parking lot is always full too, even on non-busy times - why is that?

The free weight/barbell/bench area is very small so when you grab a barbell do to deadlifts-be ready to have people walking in front of you or in between you and the benches (that are so close together) and they'll be a personal training session going on at the same time-of course, which crowds the area even more! Maybe there should be less machines to leave more room for free weights?

Staff is okay. They won't really show you how to work a machine unless you book a personal trainer session. The reception staff at times can be rude. Overall a 2 star. If you're there only for cardio then I say go for it, if you just need a bench (and are able to get one!) with free weights-sure, you can make do. Barbells-not so much.
