Stony Plain Lions Club Description

The Lions story in Stony Plain stretches back to September, 1957 when 16 community minded men united to form the Stony Plain Lions Club. They committed themselves to the Lions motto 'We Serve" and to making their local community and the broader world community better places to live.

Society has changed dramatically since the 1957 start of the Lions Club. For years it was strictly a mens' club. Wives often helped with projects but tended to be in the background.

Many joined the Lioness Club which was organized in 1983 and flourished for 13 years. Lioness members supported many community causes (the library was one of its favorites) and partnered with the Lions on others (the final one being a $25, 000 donation toward the George Henning Centre in 1996). Soon after women were able to become Lions, the club wrapped up its activities.

Today the Stony Plain Lions Club consists of men and women.
