We've done with with Straight Blast Gym over the last year, and have gotten to know Steve and his gym little by little. We have nothing but good words for him. He is passionate, competent, and very approachable! If you are looking for a place to train, look no further.
This gym is more than a place to learn jiu-jitsu, it’s a place where people gather to better themselves, to grow and motivate others to do the same. I’ve been training at SBG for almost 2 years and my kids for almost 3. The coaching and overall commitment to the art and students is something truly special.
As someone that came into BJJ with no martial arts training the idea of “fighting” people was a little unnerving. I pictured giant juiced up dudes, just waiting to take it to the new guy. But was surprised to see how a team trains and learns together. No one wants to hurt you, they want you to get better, and in turn they get better.
Steve's got it going on! From crew to curriculum...it's all top shelf! If you're in the area give him call, you won't be disappointed!
Steve is one of the best guys I know, the time and dedication he puts into the gym and the students he works with is equal to no other!
Incredible gym. Super inviting place for martial arts newbies to get involved and an excellent group of people to spend your time with. All levels of fitness and ability will thrive... It has changed my life.
I've had the opportunity to do several seminars with Steve. He is honest and passionate about his work. Two qualities that I look for in a coach.
I've had the opportunity to come into town to train at SBG Edmonton several times. The overall vibe is that it's a great place to train. Steve is an excellent coach, and the crew is great to roll with. If I lived in Edmonton, I would be happy to train there full time.
I've been training with at this gym for a few years now and I can't think of a better to place to go for myself, and for my son (when he's old enough). Everyone is treated with respect and I truly feel like part of the family the tribe has become.
I was made to feel welcome the moment I stepped in. Great people with some incredible skills. Classes are extremely well taught from fundamentals though to cap. I was only visiting from Scotland for two weeks and in that short time the team have definitely improved my Jiu Jitsu.
I moved from across the country. I had been to classes at schools all over Edmonton. Finally i stopped by SBG. My first roll was with Steve and within only a couple of minutes i knew this was the place for me. No egos, no arrogance. Simply great people with the desire to learn. Makes me feel like home.
I joined at 41 years old with no experience or knowledge in BJJ, not once have I felt out of place or left behind, everyone from the white belt to the purple belt has made me feel welcome. Coaches Steve, Corey and Bill are great coaches in an amazing gym. My two 6 year olds are coached by Steve and they are excited every time they have class, Coach Steve trains them with respect and dignity and treats them like family. I am very proud to a member of The SBG family.
I have had the opportunity to train in several gyms in many different places. Although it's not my home gym ( I live outside Edmonton) it feels like.
Genuine, friendly, inviting, a great family atmosphere and a high level of fundamentally based jiujitsu.
I have both my daughters (9 and 6) training at SBG. Its an amazing gym with awesome coaches. They promote a 1 tribe ideal and you can feel it there. The girls are always excited to go to class.
I have been coming to SBG for just over an year, since then I have lost over 65 lbs, was able to get into the Jiu-Jitsu classes. Coach Steve and the rest of the coaches are there to help you build up your skills as well as your confidence. I found out that I have a whole new second family and it is called SBG.
Great gym and people. I have always been welcomed here and look forward to my visits there when holidaying or passing through Edmonton. Excellent technical instruction in a fun and healthy atmosphere.
Great atmosphere! The best place to train in Edmonton. Very family friendly.
Family and community oriented gym. Top level coaching and training.
Best training environment I have ever had. Very welcoming group and very patient staff. Very clean. One Tribe.
An awesome gym run by two passionate people. SBG Edmonton provides a community where you can reach any personal goals you want, whether it be improved fitness, weight loss or just to learn how to kick ass. Don't wait!
