Sushi Bar Zipang

Amazing service from the owner himself. Gave us complimentary drinks and food because we had to wait for a table longer than the time he quoted. We didn't even have a reservation! Food was absolutely amazing and prices were very reasonable. A must try!!! Best sushi in Calgary!!

Hands down the best sushi in Calgary. Always fresh and with a fantastic selection. Friendly wait staff and delicious food means I'm never disappointed.

First time here. Amazing California rolls! Sake is amazing too.
I totally recommend! You have a huge variety of rolls to chose from.

Made a reso tonight for 6pm. Was seated, given water around 6:10pm, was not asked for a drink order, sat for 10 more minutes and ignored by waitstaff. After 20 minutes we packed up and left. The sushi here is good but the service is normally slow. Tonight was abysmal. Will not be back. Many restaurants in Calgary still have much to learn about service. I'm sorry to add Sushi Zipang to my NOPE list.

Be prepared to have the server kick your chair non stop throughout your entire meal.

Took 25 minutes to get water and another 15 to get our drink order in, due to the servers ignoring you. I've been here when its busier so I am not sure what was different tonight.

Food arrived after an hour and a half, with our starter arriving 15 minutes after the main!!

The only thing they were quick about was bringing the bill and the machine at the end.

Had great experience in the past but tonight was absolutely dreadful.

Wonderful fresh and flavorful sushi. Nice service and interesting variations of traditional dishes. The green bean gomae is delicious.

Love this place!! Great sushi. The night that we went the restaurant was a bit too noisy though. Other than that it was fabulous!

This is by far the best sashimi I've tried in Calgary (I've tried quite a few) the tuna is specially good. The portions that come with the Tuna/Salmon Don are pretty good, and I find that even if you won't eat all the rice, is still better to buy the Don. The place is very busy and not many tables, is better to make reservations. They have a good bar if you can't get a table. When is full it gets pretty loud and there's a lot of traffic if you sit across the bar.

My visit was quite conflicted this time. The food selection and quality is bar none the best in Calgary for Japanese food in Calgary. I lived in Japan for many years and love that I can have many authentic dishes that are NOT just sushi. The sushi here is fantastic as well with generous cuts of fish but there is so much more that brought me back to my memories of Japan.

The reason I was conflicted though was as fantastic as the food was, the service of the food was horrible. We had a reservation and there was no table settings. We asked for them and waited nearly 30 minutes to get them after asking multiple times. It is tough to eat dinner without any utensils. Each person ordered and then in the end our bill was split into two bills with exactly the same items with half the cost on each one without being prompted to do so. I have never seen this occur at any other restaurant before. No one ate equal amounts so it complicated things more than simplified them. Even two split cheques would have made more sense than what was done. Stick to producing one master bill unless otherwise prompted please.

So coming here is the ultimate question of which is most important; service or food? I will be back but I sure hope the service picks up.

I have never had such a terrible experience at any sushi restaurant, ever, period. Waited ten minutes for them to clear a vacant table directly in front of us. At least another 45 minutes to put in our order. 45 minutes! Not even any water, our beer, nothing. Another 15 minutes to just get our drinks. I was starving and so frustrated with this incredibly poor service. Food came in somewhere around 1.5 hours after arriving. Even then it was next to impossible to get a server's attention in order to pay our bill. Food quality does nothing to make this kind of service acceptable. I will never come back, there are far too many amazing sushi restaurants out there to put up with this atrocious experience again.

This place is great! Great service and great food. They have a cool menu where you can pair meals with different types of sake. They also had unique menu items (that I haven't seen at any other sushi place in YYC) such as chicken gizzards which were so good! Definitely recommend going as it is a unique place with unique menu and great staff!

Great atmosphere, food and service. Only downside is it's a tad pricey compared to other similar restaurants.

I really enjoy sushi and I LOVE fresh sushi.
I've never had such FRESH sushi, the best in town that is purely fresh. The service was great! Even the guys who make the sushi in front of you will service you and they're really nice & funny.

Anyways, sushi is amazing, drinks amazing but the price is a little more expensive but totally worth it! Also, the seating is limited so you have to make reservations or your not getting in anytime after 5pm!

Some of the freshest sushi in town. You can taste the difference, especially with tuna and unagi which can have that "fishy" taste if not fresh. Here you only get pure delicious flavour.

Their cooked items are also good. The tempura batter is very light and flaky and actually has a flavour instead of just tasting deep fried.

The restaurant isn't very large so call ahead on the weekend.
