Hello everyone! We felt it was time to properly reintroduce ourselves. We are Joel and Carina Moran, the owners of Sweet Capone’s Italian Bakery and Cannoli Shop.
We wanted to reach out and say hello to all of our incredible customers and to tell you how much we appreciate your continued support. It has been over 1 month since we opened our Red Deer location, and we continually reflect on the journey that brought us here. You know the saying, 'to know where you’re going, y...ou have to know where you’ve been'? Well, that statement could not be more true for us.
We are career Paramedics who embarked on something a little different a few years ago. What started as an idea in our home kitchen, expanded into a full fledged commercial kitchen in our basement. In fact, what has now become our son’s room, still has an oven built into the wall! (Disabled for safety reasons of course, but he now uses it as a secret storage for all of his treasures!)
After years in EMS, we had decided that it was time for a change for our family. While we enjoyed serving our communities in this capacity, we were ready to pursue other options. It was a scary endeavour – to begin something new and so uncertain. Making cannoli may have been in our family, but selling it as a commodity was a whole different thing! Yet, we put one foot in front of the other, and reminded ourselves that life is about taking chances. Our tiny store in Lacombe was a BIG endeavour for us! While still working our EMS jobs, we would come home and bake until the wee hours of the morning, then head to the shop to sell! We look back on those days fondly but would definitely not want to relive them! As parents to 3 little boys under the age of 8, it was a crazy time in our lives for sure!
As we began to grow, we were so fortunate to be able to hire staff. These incredible individuals are not just staff, nor just a team, they are FAMILY. We are united with a common goal – to create jobs, make and sell some terrific pastry, support each other’s families and ensure everyone is taken care of. We are nothing without each other and capable of everything together. This is what we are the most proud of.
Thank you for your patience and love while we developed our Red Deer location. With changes in the economy, we knew it was imperative to expand so that we could take care of our Sweet Capone’s family. We are thrilled to be apart of both Lacombe and Red Deer and appreciate every single customer who makes Sweet Capone’s apart of their day.
You have our absolute guarantee that we will continue to work hard to provide a great product, a friendly and loving atmosphere, and a place where you would want to bring your family. This is what it’s all about. Family. Yours. Ours. Everyone's. We are all in it together!
With gratitude and love,
Joel and Carina Moran

User

What is there not to love? Great sandwiches, glorious cannolis & other baked goods, quality drinks & quaint, relaxing atmosphere. Also authentic, genuine, fantastic owners. Local business at its best.

User

Visited sweet capone’s on recommendation by a friend. I was simply blown away by the cannoli display. Sweet capone’s takes coffee and sweet shop to a whole new level. Its going to be a let down going back to my regular coffee shop. Thanks for the excellent experience.

User

This place is amazing. Their food is off the charts. Well worth the drive from Red Deer (or probably just about anywhere). Their attention to detail, from the decor in the bathrooms to the live flowers on the table blew me away. The prices seem a little high until you actually bite into the food and taste the homemade/premium-ingredients difference. Well worth what they charge. The staff are great too, remembering my name on my third or fourth time in there... super impressed. There is nothing disappointing here. 6/5 stars if i could.

User

This is heaven on earth ! So good ,delicious and so well decorated inside to the staff is awesome. Great job can't wait for the Red Deer location to open!

User

Stopped in for the cannolis and coffee. Cute coffee shop. Delicious food and great staff!

User

Stopped in for a coffee to break up my drive between Calgary and Edmonton. The coffee was a quality that I've previously been unable to find along the highway, caffeinated perfection! I ordered a cheesecake flavoured cannoli - maybe I should have ordered something a little less light and flaky while driving and wearing a dark uniform, but I regret nothing! Delicious. The staff was friendly and the comfortable ambiance made me regret not being able to stay. I will be back with my family!

User

OMG! So terribly delicious! The cheesecake blush cannoli is amazing! Good thing you are in Lacombe and I am in Red Deer! Lol!

User

I want to thank Carina and Sweet Capone's for donating cannolis at Levi Robinson's funeral service. Your love and gratitude meant a lot to me and the family. God bless you all!

User

I have found my new "spot" for when I am in Alberta! Everything was spectacular, the service was amazing. I have been to similar bakery's but these are the best cannoli's I have ever had! You can taste the freshness and flavors before you even take your first bite! Thank you to Marjorie for taking us here! #teammarjoandjf

User

I had their tomato bisque today and it was like heaven in a bowl!

User

Great cafe with a lot of character. Well worth the rest stop in off the QEII. The cannoli is amazing and fresh! Next time I’d definitely like to try ‘The Godfather’ deli sandwich.

User

First time at a non-Tim's/Starbuck's/2nd Cup coffee & pastry shop that serves real lattes (of which I am aware - I think I've been to one but I was afraid of what they might be feeding me). I had a Vanilla latte & a salted caramel cannelloni. The barista was a very pleasant young lady who was very patient with this old cowboy/biker and his backward ways. Loved the food & drink! A great atmosphere. I will go back.

User

Entering our local pastry shop is like stepping back in time, located in a turn of the century building and when you look around, everything looks so appealing, from the dark wood trim, interior boutique feel and ornate wallpaper. The cakes and cannolis are beautiful and delectable. They taste even better than they look. Our family also enjoyed coffee and Nonna's original recipe lasagna. A must visit for any pastry lover. Love it!

User

Always fresh and always friendly! I highly recommend.

User

A bit pricey, but well worth it. For us it is a treat a couple times a year, as we live out of town and do not get to Lacombe often. When our adventures do take us through this lovely town, though, it is a must-stop for us!

User

When I think of cannoli. I think of the crunchy outer layer ... rather than soft pastry. These are more like a pastry/cream horn. Today I couldn't believe the prices (expensive). I guess we will go on very special occasions only ... just my opinion. Pumpkin spice was delicious.

User

Had the best profiterole and latte on Sunday - just perfectly done. Will be back soon, to pick up desserts to take to a friend's home for a party. It was amazing -there was virtually no one in the cafe when we arrived, and it was packed when we left. Everyone knows a good thing!

User

Food is good. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the service isn’t really great.
