I’m having an affair on my city with Vancouver. It’s been two years of visiting monthly, and like any relationship it’s had its ups and downs. Vancouver has a lot more people, a lot more rain, and a lot less snow. (although right now that’s not the case😂) In the summer, it truly is the most beautiful city in the world. FAMILY. The most important thing in the world to me, is in the photo. However, I’m going to be honest, it is very easy for me to get wrapped up with work. It’s not that I don’t value my family more than anything, I just get hyper focused on my career. I’ve mentioned a few times that I had to set some clear boundaries. This is something I struggle with still. Don’t get me wrong, work will always be a priority, but it’s not everything. I think being in a long distance relations...hip has helped me to get to the other side. It’s amazing how things work out. For example, had I never started taking time off for Joe, i don’t think I would’ve realized how much I needed it. From that I was able to take weekends for my family, friends, and most importantly time to myself. Something I have been asked recently is why am I so loyal to JOICO? The initial response, is they are my family. The people I worked with over my 13 years at JOICO, helped shape who I am. Not just as an educator or a stylist, but also as a person. I learned hard work pays off. I learned how to have humility, and confidence. I learned many of my organizational skills, and the importance of being prepared. I also learned how to understand different personality types. This was ...all included in our trainings, along with staying current annually on the cut and colour trends. . . When I first started with JOICO, it was like dating someone that was playing hard to get. I had to hustle. We all did. Many volunteer hours, countless trainings at our expense, and of course getting to know the people behind the scenes. I loved every minute of it. I remember when I finally started getting paid. It was almost strange to me because it had become such a hobby, I couldn’t believe I was also getting paid for it! . . Now, I feel so blessed to have Joico’s backing. Yes, there are amazing independent educators out there. However, there is something so special when one of the best colour companies in the world supports you. They have believed in me enough to send me all over Canada, not to mention other amazing places. I choose JOICO because they chose me.

I believe there is a formula for success. It requires hard work, drive, passion, organization and accountability. To me, being accountable is really number one. There is actually two parts to this. Being accountable for our actions. When we mess up, it’s on us to own it. In our industry that means sometimes doing a fix. It happens to all of us. Whether it’s miscommunication, or not nailing something. We are human. At this point, we have a choice. Admit we made a mistake, or a...llow our ego to get in the way. It can be very humbling to admit when we screw up. But it feels so good to be allowed an opportunity to fix it. And when you do nail it, 🙌🏻. Part two of being accountable, is showing up. In any industry, when you make a commitment, plans, or an appointment it’s important to stick to it. Of course, there are unforeseen circumstances, but how do we fix it? This is the make or break moment. Own it. Call your client and find a way to accommodate them. To me that means staying late, coming in early, or working on your day off. I am booked solid, so if I had to cancel someone, those are my only options. Don’t forget we work in the customer service industry.
