About The Big Moo Ice Cream Parlor

The Big Moo, Locally Owned and Operated Ma & Pa Ice Cream Parlor serving food and toys

The Big Moo Ice Cream Parlor Description

The owners of The Big Moo love the sun, the beach and especially ICE CREAM. But it wasn’t always an ice cream parlor, it started out as a gas station and convenience store with only 6 flavors of ice cream. However we soon realized that selling ice cream and beach toys was much more fun than selling gas and that was when The Big Moo was born. We know have 80 flavors of premium ice cream, a sizzling grill where we serve the best burgers, wraps and rice bowls and many other yummy treats.

You can’t even say anything bad about this place tho. It’s a hot spot in Sylvan for a reason

User

Sometimes a little busy but those who've visited a Tourist motivated town before should realize that this is part of the Sylvan Lake beach town experience!

I read other reviews on here of people complaining about having to wait a long time for service and whatnot which is a shame because they clearly don't understand that sometimes the unexpected happens and you can only do your best (the business). Stop complaining to complain.

The ice cream is always worth the wait. The kids working here are young and it is nice to see them work so hard and do something good with their summer.

I recommend this visit. 5 STARS every time!!

User

My family and I love this place.... anytime we are heading down highway 2 we take the short side trip to the big moos. Would I love a smaller bill but at the end of the day I'm willing to pay it for the choices. But please add a daiquiri ice flavor.... use to be able to get it at baskin Robbins years back best flavor ever!

User

Always enjoy the Big Moo. Love the ice cream. Lots of choice. Staff were as friendly and helpful as they could be with people and kids milling around everywhere. Went in for ice cream, not frozen coconut or almond milk, not everyplace can cater to everyone's every whim. Have loved this place for over 30 years.

User

Tried this place for the first time and I was really excited because I’ve heard great things. I’m disappointed though for the fact that you pay almost $5 for a cone and one scoop and you get such a small scoop on the cone. The quality doesn’t match the price you pay.

User

The ice cream was good, but the way we were treated by the cashier was appalling. She was extremely rude, repeatedly cut me off when asking questions about the menu and was not helpful at all. Overwhelmingly unfriendly and has made our first visit disappointing.

User

Besides the long line ups, which we expected on a warm July weekend, me and my girl friend are extremely disappointed with the service we received. They have a great selection but the workers at the ice cream counter have no clue what they're doing and disorganized when its comes to who they're serving next.

Being respectful customers waiting as those in front of us are served once they were done were obviously the next ones in line. a group of people then walk right up to the coolers in front of us and their immediately served ahead of us after we've waited 10 minutes. the person working should have noticed we've been waiting.

Afterwards when we finally get served we both had double scoops i received mine in a cone my girl friend got a dish. When the little blonde hair girl went to give my girl friend hers it was half the size of mine, appeared to be one scoop everyone around us even thought that, the girls explanation for why she gave here such a small portion ' there's two scoops there i just compacted it"..... made absolutely no sense first off how do you compact ice cream..... second off why ? Was see being lazy and didn't want to reach to the bottom of the bucket? it didnt even look like a scoop, more like just a bunch of little pieces. But all of us were shocked she did that, but paying 5$ for one scoop ice cream RIDICULOUS, even worse they were so busy we couldn't get an opportunity to speak to anyone about it. so im expressing my thoughts here.

so hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else, but if you want "Compacted" ice cream, this is definitely the place to go

User

Went in to grab a bottled drink (ICE) and got through very quickly which was nice. However, I got back to our spot by the lake when my sister asks for a sip and as she goes to open the bottle she discovers that the product expired two months ago. We went back to get one that wasn't expired only to find that the rest of the stock of ICE they had was also expired. There were no attempts to remove the expired inventory so to my knowledge, it is still being sold. I got my money back but I don't think I'll be going back for fear of being given food way past its prime.

User

The ice cream is great but it does come from a store bought tub so I guess they can't really mess that up. But holy cow is it poor customer service and rude people there. I went a few times of end summer last year with my 2 little girls and once without them. Seemed okay until I seen a grown woman (what I assume to be the owners daughter or the manager) talking to the Filipino lady that was working there very mean. I kind of took it like she was treating her like "the help". I d not want my children to see that kind of treatment. I didn't go back for 9 months. Thinking it maybe changed I went back for a milkshake. It was busy seeing how summer is pretty much here. I stood waiting like the cashier told me too and started noticing people that came in after me getting their stuff and leaving. When I asked one of the younger girls getting the ice cream if there was a number system she snapped at me and said "no, you just have to wait", when I tried to tell her I was waiting for over 30 minutes she then said "well you just have to wait longer". There were some other student workers that tried to accommodate me and served me well. When I tried to ask what the (in my opinion) rude young girl's name the manager came and asked how she was rude I told her and then the manager said okay and left where I was standing. No apology or any treatment of any kind. I will NEVER be going back. I will drive to Red Deer or buy my own tub of ice cream.
