Katie and Christian are VIPs at the Royal Canadian Geographical Society’s gala fundraising dinner in Calgary tonight, sharing our project’s story with distinguished members of our community. In addition to showing a brief video teaser on the project we auctioned off the first hand jammer to be used in Canada’s deepest cave in support of the society. Tune in later to see the video that was shown! #nikonRCGS #bisaroproject

Private Torindo John Bisaro K38606 served with the Royal Highland Regiment (the Black Watch) and was reported missing in action after the invasion of Normandy. He was later declared killed in action, July 28, 1944 and is buried at the Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery. Lest We Forget. #canadaremembers

The expedition team has returned from the plateau. There were some interesting discoveries underground as the teams pushed into various leads and some great work done in the shorter caves while attempting to find a connection into the main cave system. We hope to have news soon about the length of the cave based on our latest survey data. Expedition members taking part in this latest effort were from Alberta, British Columbia, the USA, and South Africa.

Midweek update! A team of 15 cavers flew up to the Plateau on Saturday and 8 entered Bisaro Anima for overnight stays, splitting themselves between Camp 1 and Camp 0.5. As of Monday, an unknown amount of passage is surveyed below Camp 1 in “Did Nazi That Coming”, two additional pitches are aid climbed near 0.5 in “Double Barrel”, and several leads are investigated at the southwestern limit of explored passage, where connections to other smaller caves on the surface are likely.... Two dive tanks are delivered to Camp 2 in anticipation of our New Years Expedition. Meanwhile on the surface, our remaining cavers have doubled the length of the “Gear Cave”, and have opened the “Blowing Crack” in the Lower Plateau wide enough for cavers to rappel in and start exploring. Sounds like we are about to add a bunch of passage to our map! More updates and photos to follow! Team member Jared Habiak describes his exploration of a newly discovered short cave on the plateau. It’s a tale of darkness, despair, and, a cat?....

What is it like to look for caves on the Bisaro Plateau? Team member Vlad Paulik descends a rift for the first time while Mark and Elaine Scott mark the location with GPS and photo document the entrance. The Bisaro project team has found and marked about 150 surface locations like this and explored many of them on this recent expedition. Royal Canadian Geographical Society Canadian Geographic MEC

What does it look like in Bisaro Anima? Team member Chantal Tempelman negotiates a traverse line over a gaping hole at about 350 meters depth below the entrance. She’s covered in mud from exploring a new passage in this section of cave. Teams found and surveyed new passages in the cave, and found a new underground river that is quite interesting!
