Well, here we are. The Friday of another long weekend and then we all start getting into our regular fall schedules. I'm not sure what happened to summer, but the weather cooled considerably and the days have gotten quite a bit shorter.
I've learned a few things today.
1) Trying to rush around in the morning to get things done is an ineffective way to get things done. :(
... 2) Had a fascinating conversation with Marcus from Happiness By The Acre about chickens. Did you know that eggs from chickens in the summer are different than eggs from chickens in the winter? As long as the feed is different then the egg will be too!
3) Chickens need to be moved around regularly so that they can continue to get the food they need.
So now you know too!
You might remember a while back we had a contest to rename the Espresso Smoothie. I can understand if you thought I forgot. Well, I did, just for a little bit but it's all sorted out now and we have a WINNER!!!!
There were a number of excellent suggestions but we went with Helen Kuczak's suggestion of Cafe Breeza! Helen, come on down and collect your $20 Koffee Kabin Gift card!
When Helen comes in to collect I'll take a photo with her newly named drink.
And finally...we'll be open regular hours tomorrow and from 10 - 2 on Monday.

I'm back now. Actually I've been open for over an hour but I was having a fascinating conversation with Marcus from Happiness by the Acre about chickens. Then I was helping a woman find the hairdresser she was looking for. Then a couple of young women came in preparing for a day at the zoo. Then a regular group of troublemakers from a church came in to chat.
So, it's all good - I'll post a regular post in a little bit. But I need more coffee first. Good thing there's some handy.

It's been quite a couple of weeks for this little coffee shop. First we were notified of our bronze status for best cup of coffee in Mountain View County, but then we were highlighted as a success story in the Community Futures magazine!
Community Futures is a non profit organization that provides loans to rural Canadians. We dealt with the branch in Red Deer which is Community Futures Central Alberta. It was a fantastic experience that I would be happy to repeat and recommend them to any entrepreneur.

Hi folks!
Whether you are in a small town or a large city, there are outside factors which can impact your way of life and your livelihood.
Being a citizen of the western world means that we must learn to deal with ongoing and never ending (although necessary) construction. For a business this can be devastating, and right now in Carstairs one such business is suffering because of outside factors.
... Centre Street Steak & Pizza is an excellent restaurant that is suffering because the street in front has been torn up. I can tell you that any business in the food industry runs on pretty slim margins so any disruption can be disastrous. Ravi and his family have given so much to this community and now they are the ones in need.
I’m going there tomorrow and I hope you can find a way to go as well.

Labour Day hours

Good Morning!
Today is a REALLY GOOD DAY!
Now that the temperature has cooled, soup is back on the menu! Today’s soup is Cream of Potato with Bacon..... my favourite.
... Not only that... but now that your schedules are starting to become solidified and you realize that 24 hours just isn’t enough in the day, we want to help you.
In the coming days we’ll be introducing the Packed Lunch Program. It’s open to everyone and the idea is that lunch orders placed by 10 pm will be guaranteed for 8:30 am the next day. Order placed after 10 pm would be guaranteed by noon. You can then come in and pick up your lunch for yourself, your kids or anyone that might need it and be on your way. We are still working out pricing and the menu, but you’ll have options to choose from. Items that will be on the options are: sandwiches, canned drinks, desserts, salads and maybe soup. None of this is written in stone, but we’re going to try it this way first and see how it goes.

Good Morning!
TODAY is a really GOOD DAY!
The sun is shining and the day is full of possibilities.
... I want to introduce you to Bella Bates. This lovely young woman is the one who gave me her recipe for the Lemon Loaf and thus it became her namesake in Bella’s Lemon Loaf. Thank you Bella!
And the flowers that you see are from the new florist in town - Blooms by Bloy. Raymonde Bloy put it together and gave them to me. They are gorgeous!
And guess what else?!?! The phone works now. Sort of. I still can’t pick up messages, but one thing at a time.
Oh, and before I forget.... we are upgrading our Internet on Thursday. Shaw is coming out sometime between 9 and 11 am to swap out the modem. So if you’ve experienced trouble when connected to our wifi, this will hopefully fix it.

In this last of 3 sessions you'll learn how to glue the cover to the cardboard, and the text block to the cover.
The classes are restricted to those 14 and up, however if an adult accompanies a person younger than that, that's fine. Each student must be cognizant of the safety requirements when using a knife.
This entire 3 session workshop is $50 and you'll walk away with your own journal to keep or give as a gift.

In this second of 3 sessions you'll learn to cut and measure the cardboard for the cover, glue the cardboard, glue the text block. We'll also go over best methods to cut the cardboard with a knife.
The classes are restricted to those 14 and up, however if an adult accompanies a person younger than that, that's fine. Each student must be cognizant of the safety requirements when using a knife.
This entire 3 session workshop is $50 and you'll walk away with your own journal to keep or give as a gift.

In this first of 3 sessions you'll learn the beginning steps of how books are bound. You'll learn precise folding techniques and sewing the pages together. Time permitting you'll also learn why precision matters in cutting paper with a knife.
The classes are restricted to those 14 and up, however if an adult accompanies a person younger than that, that's fine. Each student must be cognizant of the safety requirements when using a knife.
This workshop is $50 and you'll walk away with your own journal to keep or give as a gift. If you have some special material that you would like to cover your journal with, please bring it to this class so we can discuss.

My daughter and I stopped by for a drawing and coffee hot chocolate date. My daughter referred to the hot chocolate as "the best ever", my Americano was fabulous, but the best part was the owners- so friendly, welcoming and came over to visit. I recommend this place for the wonderful coffee, atmosphere and the great company

I am so thankful for Kim and what she has done in bringing an amazing much needed coffee shop to our town. This is a great local place to go for fabulous coffee & delicious treats.
