Attended the Duchess Bake Co. class. Already had the cookbook and when I signed up I was told I would get the credit for the cookbook back in money to spend at the store equivalent to what the book was worth. Great I thought - I could pick up some ingredients from the delicious treats I was going to make. I was definitely wrong.
Class was very unorganized - we were constantly asking for direction on what we should be doing and seemed to always be looking for ingredients or supplies (which should have all been laid out as they knew what recipes we were making beforehand). They didn't book enough time for the class and we were scrambling to get everything done (eg: our chocolate tart didn't have time to set but they cut it to send pieces home with people anyway).
After the class, I went to find out how much I'd have in store credit to spend. The price on the back of the cookbook was $35 so I thought I would get something in that range. Couldn't believe it when Gail at the counter told me $17.50 was all the credit I'd get. I decided to keep the book since it was worth much more than $17.50 - I'll have to give the book away as a gift.
Definitely will not be back for any classes at Cookbook Co.

Very overpriced for what you get. For $95 per person we got to cut vegetables and do zero actual cooking. There were 22 people in the class and only one cook, so it was disorganized and crowded. They sent us to the prep tables and didn't tell anyone what to do. Disappointed by the experience.

Cooking class felt unstructured/unsupervised. 20 amateur cooks of varying skill independently following a recipe with not much instruction. It is a fun afternoon but quite expensive and the food was mediocre.

Went there for a cooking class with a large group. Cooking class was fun and instructor had a great attitude and was very lively and humorous and made for a fun experience. Offered tips on cooking, menu options, and even to email you the menu that you cooked that night. Waiters service was decent at best. Frustrating thing is you pay a hefty service percentage of the bill that is mandatory cause you have a large group but then the service is poor and you can't do anything about it. This is really frustrating as they should either allow you to tip based on the service or if they require you to pay a mandatory tip based on the percentage of the bill then service should always be top notch. Many of us had to get up and go serve ourselves drinks as the waiter and waitress were nowhere to be found.

Booking the reservation was extremely frustrating as they never get back to you. Trying to email or call to ask questions, or concerns for dietary restrictions, alcohol etc and you never heard back from them. Email many times, call a few times and no response then weeks later they get back to you like nothing happened and no apology.

Overall I would maybe go back to their shop upstairs as they seem to have alot of interesting cooking books, foods, utensils etc. Maybe go back for a cooking class with 2 or 4 people but would not go back with a large group as the cost doesn't justify the frustrations in booking and poor service from waiting staff despite the excellent service from cooking instructors.

Such a beautiful shop, great selection and they offer cooking classes I've been itching to participate in for ages but my distance from the shop now make it hard. I also love that it back onto the Metrovino shop so you've got the best of food and wine right in one place. You can't go wrong!
