A little bit about The Gems of Mazatlan;

We couldn’t help but fall head over heels in love with the children at the Salvation Army Children’s Home in Mazatlan. After arriving in Mazatlan last November, we quickly came to realize that Mazatlan would be our winter destination for years to come, thanks to the beautiful smiles and hearts of these little people.

Pete started a weekly maintenance program to round up volunteers and donations to take care of the general maintenance of the home as they struggle to make ends meet at the best of times, so maintenance of the home often gets pushed aside.

As Melinda loves to cook, she started a weekly lunch program to get the kids some hearty, healthy meals on a regular basis as they mostly live on rice, beans and corn tortillas. Making several connections over the winter brought in many volunteers to buy groceries and prepare the meals.

We believe that with the support of friends, family, sponsors and donors, we can continue to improve the lives of these incredibly resilient children. Therefore, we have created “The Gems of Mazatlan”, which is a not for profit organization registered in Canada.
