WHAT IS SITE-SYMPATHETIC?
Site-sympathetic work is developed in collaboration with the space. It is an interactive relationship between the space and play, we immerse the audience and performer in a brand new experience that allows them to connect more fully to the content that each piece explores and uses the venue to the fullest.

HISTORY
Founded in 2011, Thou Art Here is Alberta’s alternative Shakespeare company bringing the Bard’s work and adaptations to the most unexpected places. The company strives to create site-sympathetic productions, which explore relevant and exciting stories that highlight notable venues.

In the past these venues have included the Lougheed House National and Provincial Historic Site and Museum, the historic Garneau Theatre, The Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site, the Artery alternative music venue, University of Alberta HUB Mall and Fine Arts Building, the Strathcona Community Centre, playgrounds, bars, street corners, and subways stations.

We have collaborated with numerous Albertan events including The Kaleido Family Arts Festival, St. Albert Mayor’s Celebration for the Arts, Amplify Youth Festival, Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo, Found Festival, Snow Globe Festival for Children’s Theatre, New Year’s Eve in Churchill Square, Edmonton Public Library and the Edmonton Public and Catholic school boards. We have an ongoing relationship with the Freewill Shakespeare Festival and Citadel Theatre creating their youth programming and Shakespearean classes, respectively.

From campus bars, to street corners, to a darkened bedroom, we transform the space around us into a living, breathing, in-the-moment spectacle.
