Thrifty Car Rental

DO NOT rent from this outlet; we had reservations, stood in line for over 30 minutes, told by the agent they had no cars and there was nothing he could do. He did take us to Alamo who gave us a car at our reserved price but as for Thrifty, we will never do any business with them ever...

Zero stars. Car hire was prepaid for £210 but they charged me an extra £180 on my card after. I was not advised of any additional cost. Hired car with baby seat but the seat was not in the car so had to return to airport for car seat & was given wrong size so had to return to airport again to change baby seat again. Shocking customer service and lots of additional charges placed on credit card without your knowledge. DO NOT USE!

I had no problems at all with this car rental company. Staff were prompt, helpful and polite. Car was on time and as promised. The car was new, clean and very economical.

all was fine until we got home and my credit card was charged with a mountain of hidden charges that we still believe we didn't ask for. When I rang to question this I was met with some very argumentative staff who were very aggressive over the phone. They hung up on me twice and ended up saying it was too late I had been charged and must accept it. I was also told that everything was explained to me before we took the car regarding the charges. This is utter rubbish. I remember saying I didn't want them but yet still ended up being charged. I was also told regarding the fuel that if we brought it back empty it would be cheaper..... this is a lie. Compete lie. The rates they have charged us for a car that was brought back in perfect condition is shocking. DO NOT USE.

My experience with this facility is normal, smooth, nothing special. But it really has a lot hidden fees! Listed below:

Premium location charge: 41.18
Customer facility charge: 36
That's already $88 on top of quoted price!
Plus the stuff first try to up sale another vehicle for additional $50 a day! Do I look stupid or crazy? Then she try to convince me that both my already purchased insurance or my travel credit card not covering. Took some time to get the key.
The return is very smooth though. I purchased full tank gas as they pushed me to do so. Returned with gas light on. No loss here. I guess most time people return the car with a quarter tank of gas, that's another $15-$20 loss!

We were in a wreck in our rental car and were stranded for an entire day without a car in the middle of no where Canada. I called at least 50 times to ask them where our car was because they would never call me themselves. I finally got them to agree to send us a car, they sent it to the wrong place 4 hours away! Worst experience I have ever had. If I could give them a zero I would. DO NOT USE THEM!!!

I had the same experience as most other people. Cars didn't have winter tires and it would have been an extra charge. There were areas we went that road signs specifically said "snow tires mandatory". They push their extra insurance really hard even after you tell them you already have extra rental coverage through your own auto insurer and credit card. They actually tried to tell me their insurance is the only insurance that covers me. Took forever to pick up even though we were the only people there. The final amount paid for me was just over double quoted amount. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one was because the guys working in the parkade where you pick the rental up were fast and attentive. I'd give 1 star for customer service out front at the desk and 5 for the other guys.

Beweare of all the extra charges that are hidden. This was a complete rip-off and cost us 4 times the price that was advertized on the website. The service was very upleasant and unproffessional. I will never again book a car with Thrifty. Worst experience I ever had with a car rental compagny.

I called and spoke to Jay at the Calgary Airport Dollar/Thrifty Car Rental location and he provided exceptional and detailed information. The other rental companies that I called were sorely lacking. Some them were only interested in closing or directing me to their website to get the better deal.

In attempting to call some of the other rental companies directly at the airport I was redirected their call centres, where their service agents had an excruciatingly limited amount of knowledge of their cars and the car renting business and experience in general. It was so bad that I would be shocked to learn if any of them had ever rented a car themselves or had ever been to a physical car rental location.

Because of my experience with Jay I will always check to see about renting a car from Dollar/Thrift first, and if the difference in price is small I'd still go with them. Keep up the great work! Being able to speak to an expert on site, who wasn't pressuring me to book, is the way to go! ABC and 'lacking' agents at call centres is not. Thanks Jay!

I'll update this review after I rent a car from them.
