Treaty 7 Dyke And Trans March

About Treaty 7 Dyke And Trans March

The Treaty 7 Dyke and Trans March is a group dedicated to community building for queer and LGBTQAI2S + people, central to Calgary. With the over-arching goals of on-going accountability, affirmation, and accessibility, we strive to provide platforms for internally marginalized members of the community. In addition to the annual march we host events, engage in community outreach, and provide resources and education throughout the year.

we would like to acknowledge that we are located on the land of the people of Treaty 7, Blackfoot Niitsitapi, the Piikani, Siksika, the Blood tribe, The Stoney Tribe which includes the Bearspaw, Chiniki and Wesley First Nations and The Tsuu T’ina Nation. The land we now call Calgary is also home to the people of the Metis; region three. It is important that we remember that the Land we gather on is stolen land, taken from people who did not understand the language and this treaty was signed for many under an X, We acknowledge the Genocide of the people of this land and it is important that while we march we remember all the people of colour that have worked and died for us to be able to gather and march here. It is important that we understand and take awareness to many of the difficulties and discriminations we face due to homophobia and transphobia is based on colonialism. It is important that we remember that as hard as it is for those of us with white and white passing privilege to exist in our society we do not forget that it is at least twice as hard for those of us without that privilege. In moving forward we must all work to overcome and dismantle these systems of oppression and not leave the work to the indigenous peoples and the people of colour of this land.
