After doing a lot of research of alarm system companies we decided to contact United Alarm. Bob came out to talk through all of our wants and needs and made the whole process so easy for us. He explained everything in detail and the best was how he tailored their packages to suit our needs. He wasn't pushy or anything. He took the time to answer all of our questions and actually taught us a few things. We felt instantly relaxed knowing that United Alarm will be looking after our home especially now that we have a new baby.
Having spoken to a few friends about their alarm companies we were delighted at the value for money we were getting with United. Their affordable prices are great. Our system will be installed next week and we hope that their customer service is as great as Bobs friendly and professional manner.

We had previous experience with a different alarm company (one that goes door-to-door) and it was a very negative experience, so when we moved and I started looking at other alarm companies I paid particular attention to the reviews, the consumer choice awards, and my neighbors. Unite Alarm came in at the top and after a couple months with the system I can see why.

Bob was a great sales rep and extremely knowledgeable and personable; he was honest and helpful the entire time and it was obvious he respected the company he worked for. The installer (Darrel, I believe) was similarly great, even pointing out something he thought would improve our system. He too was great to work with and very helpful. We had a blizzard that day and he was barely 10 minutes late (amazing in my opinion) and worked quickly and thoroughly. He cleaned up after himself and everything was great.

The system itself has been great to use; but hasn't been flawless. We opted for the more expensive "pet-resistant" motion sensors, which have worked great 95% of the time. That other 5% lead to a false alarm. The company was pretty sure it was a cat (they can recognize how pets seem to trigger the alarm only once whereas humans trigger numerous times (and also probably start opening doors and whatnot to get stuff out)). Bob warned us we might get a false alarm and if it was problematic United could come back and further tweak the system. So far it hasn't happened again but if it does I have fairly confident given their customer support so far that they'll take care of it.

One negative must be pointed out, the call center called us from Vancouver and refereed use to a Calgary number (we live just outside Calgary). But when we called that Calgary number no one answered! The second time we called we were thrown on hold (someone with a heavy accent said "please hold", that was it). We called back the Vancouver number and got through immediately. I don't want this to be the case if there was a real emergency (though clearly the first call would be to the cops), nor do I want the RCMP dispatched because we couldn't get through to cancel a false (cat) alarm. Hopefully this is an isolated occurrence and I am happy we could at least get to the fellow in Vancouver quickly.

All-in-all I am satisfied, and compared to the previous alarm companies I have used United is must better. I definitely recommend them.

Update: I recently moved and installed a new system at the new place and the experience was even better, great service, great people. When I had a billing concern it was addressed immediately and efficiently.

Great experience.
The salesman that came to our home explained all of our options with the existing security system we had already that was built in our home, and what made sense for us to purchase.
The installer showed up on time and completed the work quickly and also fixed a couple of small of issues that came up, and worked closely with the monitoring office to resolve those.
The few times since installation that we had to call the monitoring station with any issues, all questions were answered.
Best of all they are a local company. Keep up the great work.

Dealing with the people at United Alarm has been a pleasant experience to date. It is easy to get a hold of someone. Their prices are reasonable. They have experienced sales staff. Robert Stevens has been in the industry for many years and knows his stuff. Their service has also been superior to the last company I was with.They use quality products and they are a local company. What more can you ask for? I did have some technical issues after setting up my NVR system, but Kevin Makihara one of their technicians stopped by and corrected all my issues in short order. So Far I have only been with this company for a short time, but they have been true to their word and I am very pleased with the product,sales experience and price.

I tried phoning this company 3+ times and submitted an online request for quote and nobody returned my phone calls. When I finally got through to someone at 5:01 PM the phone was forwarded to the after hours call number, and the lady was incredibly rude. Ultimately, I was annoyed enough with the overall customer service to give a 1 star review and sign up with a different company. It's too bad as I would have liked to support this local company.

Stay Away from this company – 12 year customer

I went upgrade my system and the sales person cancelled my appointment twice. Both times I left work to be home for this meeting.

Called the United Alarms to speak to a manager and they did not return my call.

I sent in a 30 day cancellation notice for termination May 1st and they stopped monitoring the system the day they received the letter. Then they charge me for monitoring for the month of May. They justified what they did by “wording” of the contract and cancellation agreement.

They said that there is a 90 day notice and they gave me break. After 12 years and United failed in all areas of customer service, I am left to warn others not to use this mismanaged company.

I have had a very positive experience with United Alarm. The installer was very helpful, efficient and good at answering my all of my questions. I am impressed with the equipment that was installed compared to some of the other company’s equipment that I looked at. I also found that their monthly rates were competitive and even a little better for equivalent services compared to other companies. The main office has also been very helpful in answering questions and giving support. Overall, I am happy with my decision to go with United Alarm, and happy I found a nice local company here in Calgary to support. #yycstrong

This is the worst experience I have had with an alarm company. Within 4 months i have received 5 calls saying the motion sensor has set off the alarm, to which all 5 times have been false alarms. I have called them 4 times to try and fix this issue. All 4 times ended in disappointment and nothing fix, so if someones dies break it and it wasn't a false alarm I would be blaming them and their horrible service. They are charging me monthly and expect me to pay extra to get something that is their fault to be fix. The rep on the phone dare told me i had to climb up on a ladder all the time to the sensor to keep it clean. I've never had any issues or needed to clean my sensor in the past when I used Reliance Protection. I do not recommend United Alarms, this company is nothing but garbage service. I will be switching companies early and terminating my contract with them.
