As we settle into a new school year with winter around the corner it's a good reminder to reduce screen time for our children. Some nearsightedness is a family trait, some can be induced by too much screen time!!

A mom of one of our little patients shared this great tip...and it's one of those why-didn't-I-think-of-that moments! If you or your young reader is struggling, or noticing eye strain, get a reading stand! A flat angle makes the text look smaller, and causes abnormal eye movement. Think about it, when you hold up your cell phone you don't put it flat, you put it up at an angle to your face...so much easier!
It might be worth it to purchase an inexpensive table top book stand to help your child succeed this year!

We know our own kids best, right? And while that's true for what veggies they like, or who would be a good fit to be their homeroom teacher, it's not always the case when it comes to vision.
Children have no way to compare their vision to others. They feel what they see is "normal" so often vision problems are unreported.
A comprehensive eye examination with a doctor of optometry will assess not only your child's vision, but their eye health, and how well their eyes team together. Start the year off right, book them in for an eye exam :)
