The United States and Canada have been battling devastating wildfires this summer. Smoke from the fires in Western United States and Canada has blown into central Canada, reaching as far as Manitoba. The smoke is so pronounced that it is visible from DSCOVR, a satellite about 1 million miles (1.5 million km) in space!

#DYK: 112 years ago today, Tuesday, July 17, 1906, the first U.S. Consul in Calgary, Mr. E. Scott Hotchkiss began his term. Consul Hotchkiss served the district until 1913 when he retired back to his hometown in the United States. This afternoon we celebrated 112 years of Consulate Calgary with a birthday party! 🇺🇸️ 🎂 🇨🇦️
