About Waísamama Guayusa Co.

What started as an interest in an energizing cup of tea, has now turned into a love affair with what we think is one of the most revitalizing and sustainable sources of energy we have ever found. Guayusa (pronounced, "Gwhy-YOU-sah") is one of three caffeinated trees in the Holly family that grows primarily in the Ecuadorian region of the Amazon rainforest. Its leaves have been brewed like tea and ceremoniously consumed for their highly energizing and health-promoting properties by the Kitchwa tribe for at least 1500 years. Besides the pleasantly fresh aroma and taste of Guayusa, the real magic comes from the synergy between three of its naturally occurring constituents: caffeine, l-theanine and theobromine. The caffeine provides energy, the l-theanine acts to soothe the jitters normally associated with caffeine and the theobromine acts to uplift. Combine that with more antioxidants than green tea and a plethora of amino acids and you've got yourself a healthy productivity powerhouse! We take every step possible to minimize our environmental impact. For example, our boxes are made from post-consumer recycled content, our labels are made from up-cycled coffee bags, and we use only glass bottles - what we believe to be the healthiest recyclable container. Our loose leaf bags are omni-degradable, meaning they break down into constituent elements rather than form micro-plastics. Furthermore, we are proud that Guayusa cultivation is the cause of the greatest reforestation effort in Ecuador.
