All proceeds from the sale of my 2019 calendar will be donated to the Canadian Alzheimer's Society in honour of my mother, who is in the final stages of Alzheimer's, and in memory of her 2 sisters (my aunts), who have passed from Alzheimer's. Cost is $20 each. Please add $5 for postage.

Remembering the Kenow Fire. Time heals all things.

... My boyfriend and I recently spent a week at Waterton River Suites and we already want to go back! We woke up every morning and enjoyed a different homecooked breakfast that was both healthy and delicious. The view from the cabin suite is breathtaking. We saw plenty of wildlife right outside our window - blue jays, American finches, deer, hummingbirds, hawks, the list goes on.
To those wondering if the Kenow wildfire left little to do at Waterton, rest assured, there is more to do than we were able to accomplish in a full week. We hiked approximately 14 miles to, and up, Vimy Mountain and the views are still incredible. The Police Outpost Provinicial Park was possibly our favorite. We saw a Trumpeter Swan and completed some short hikes with amazing views, and even walked right up to the US/Canadian border. The town of Waterton still has the same cute novelty shops and restaurants, with perhaps one exception: there are less tourists, who I assume wrongly believe Waterton has little left to offer. This made our trip feel more private in a way, but highlights how misconceptions about the fire are causing a decrease in tourism in the surrounding areas. We found this to be the best time to go to Waterton, with plenty to do but no big crowds.
We also took short drives to Pincher Creek, the Leitch Collieries, the Bellvue Underground Mine Tour, and the Frank Slide Interpretive Center. One day we drove to Fernie and spent the day in town.
Simply put, there is much to do in Waterton and Waterton River Suites is the best place to stay - it’s close to all the nearby attractions, but offers privacy with a mountain and river view. Mike and Terri were extremely hospitable and I wouldn’t change a single aspect of the trip.

May be awhile before the Going-To-The-Sun Road is open but, if you have never driven it, it is so worth it.
