A customer in downtown #Edmonton was looking at removing black paint from a ceiling and an old "parging" that surrounded the elevators. They wanted to go with a fresh concrete look.
This building was constructed in 1977 and first off we need to look at the environmental hazards. We noted with further testing that the parging's self leveling compound around the elevators contained asbestos and had to be removed safely by an abatement team. We then tested the ceiling paint for... lead content, it came back negative.
Media or #sandblasting inside an office tower is never easy, especially in this Alberta winter weather - our crews worked after hours, over the weekend to make sure our customer's tenants were not disturbed. As for all interior blasting, we always try to use a #dustlessblasting method such as #dryiceblasting.
The main thing to take away from this post is that before doing home restoration or demolition work, please consider the risks of #asbestos or #leadpaint being present. Asbestos was a very common building material.

The 100 year-old Arlington Apartments building, a provincially and municipally designated building, was damaged by arson in 2005. The following three years of negotiations to preserve parts of Edmonton’s oldest apartment block, fell through and the owner was granted the demolition permit he had been seeking.
Unfortunately none of the original brickwork will be used in the new condos planned for the site.
We look to restore and save these heritage buildings that will foreve...r make up the history of #Edmonton #Alberta

Did you hear about one of Edmonton's newest projects coming up this spring?
The Gibbard Block was built to house luxurious apartments in 1913. However by the 1970's the building served as low income housing. In 1979 Ernest Eder took it upon himself and restored the Gibbard Block back to its original elegance by opening a bistro in the 1980's.
Today Ernest runs the La Boheme restaurant on the main floor and a bed and breakfast hotel in the upper floors. The restaurant is now ...in it's final month of operation before the building takes on it's new life. The company that will oversee the renovation of the building is called Sparrow Capital. We encourage you to check out the La Boheme restaurant and the Gibbard Block before the transformation starting on April 1st, 2018.
Thank you Ernest for keeping this little piece of history alive in Edmonton! May the Gibbard Block live on to carry your vision for many years to come.

Our logs were glass blasted over two days and look just great. Crew left our property clean and tidy. All work was delivered on time, beyond expectation, within budget AND with a smile.
