#MentalHealth has a certain stigma around it for some people.
Asking for help or seeing a professional is not a sign of weakness or failure but rather a step towards the healthiest possible version of you or your children.
My office is a judgement free zone, it's okay to ask for help.

I am trained to help children find coping strategies while growing and regularly experiencing new feelings and emotions.
My play therapy room in NW Calgary gives children a comfortable place to express their concerns and work on developing a healthy resilience to what life may throw their way.

Sometimes something as easy as this can help reduce your stress levels and let you refocus.
And guess what ... there's an app for that (Calm) so you can give yourself a nice reset throughout the day.

Wishing all the Dads out there a wonderful #FathersDay.
We all know that Dads play an important role in a child's development, but I had to share this for the fellow survivors of Dad jokes
I am trained in entering into a child's world through play to assist them in gaining a sense of mastery over issues or negative experiences in their lives.

Interesting article.
"Nearly a third of all adolescents ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder during their lifetime"
Teaching children strategies to cope with anxiety and build resilience when they are younger will reduce the likelihood of anxiety during adolescence, which is a time where addressing these issues is made more difficult by a teens desire for independence.

Mental health issues often can't be seen by people, even close friends or family. Someone you know may be suffering in silence and a simple "are you really ok?" can give them confidence to start talking.
No judgement and a 100% safe environment is an important part of my practice.

Pssst sometimes 1,2 or 5 year plans don't pan out and that's ok. Let's try closer horizons.

They also need support!

Sometimes being able to think on the fly to calm a child down mid meltdown is hard. Here is a great list of self regulating / calming methods that can be tried.
Popping bubble wrap is one of my favorites.

Generalizing is never accurate. Support and acceptance goes a long way for everyone.
Be aware of the struggles that each person on the #autism spectrum already face daily. Sometimes assuming how they feel or may act because you know someone with autism can escalate into an uncomfortable situation fast.
