We wanted to experience Austrian food for some time, today being our sons birthday we decided to take him there, without knowing it's time, we reached there and realized we were 25min before the opening time, enthusiastically we parked infront of the restaurant and thought of waiting for it to open, however a lady came out of the restaurant and asked us to remove our car, we told her we were waiting for it to open which the timing at the door said it to be 4:00pm but the lady rudely said, it' will open at 4:30,, remove your car from here. We were very surprised at her rude behaviour, and decided to not go to the restaurant at all. Sad why people behave rude. All she got was loose genuine customers.

The food is nothing spectacular, especially considering the tiny portions. The schnitzel was just OK while the portion of the side salad was too small to even form an opinion. The spaetzle with mushrooms was bland except for the generous portion of black pepper which should have been at least halved. The service was plain awful: despite the restaurant being deserted, we were seated at a tiny table by the wall. The tea took 15 minutes to arrive. At the end of the meal, the waitress brought the bill and left us to handle the machine on our own - she sat down to dinner at the front of the restaurant and said goodbye as we were leaving. Not worth a second visit and not recommended.

As with most authentic/family run restaurants expect to wait a while for seating and food.

Pros
Pretzels were awesome, crusty salty and soft.
Very light breading on the schnitzel, almost like tempura, with plenty of meat.
Fries are basic but still very good.

Cons
The schmer that came with the pretzel was awful. Might be a matter of taste but I can't imagine anyone liking it.
Farmer schnizl was supposed to include cheese and bacon; one square inch of cheese and zero bacon.
Spatzle in mushroom sauce was nothing special, almost tasteless, and not good value for the cost.

Overall, as much as I'd like to support establishments like this (especially German food) I can't recommend this place.

We moved to the neighbourhood and have been to this restaurant a 3-4 times over the last few months. Our last visit was a bit disappointing. After being seated we waited 15 minutes before anyone even came to ask us about drinks or bring water. The two servers who were working were often confused about what the other one had done for our table and often came over trying to take our order again. We poured our own wine for the meal and had to ask to have our water refilled. The food was tasty, however we found it very expensive for the size of the portions. For example for a main dish of Spatzle it was $ 22.00. We felt for a dish with such simple ingredients it was very over priced. Also the schnitzel we ordered was 27.00 and that did not include a side. I am not a large eater and felt the portions could have been larger. Although the food was good and the beer selection is great we were disappointed in our overall experience. We will not be rushing back.

Unimpressed guys. I see a lot of high star ratings on here and I was expecting a great experience. Unfortunately I was very dissatisfied. They charge top dollar and include an automatic 18% gratuity on larger tables that honestly felt like theft. Lost a star because we were standing at the front without being acknowledged at all for a good few minutes with not even half the tables filled. Lost a second star because the server was unnatentive and kind of rude honestly. She did not offer any apology at our obvious dissatisfaction at waiting over twenty minutes to get our drink order. We had all but finished our drinks and starter before we even got our main order taken. The food was good and as advertised but for the price I must admit I expected more.
To top it off we were forced out the door at the end because more customers had arrived and we had indicated we didn't want dessert. Perhaps with better service we wouldn't have stayed that long. We will not return and highly recommend the Bavarian Inn in Bragg Creek as a much better alternative for the same price.
