We offer professional training for young horses, breeding show horses(stallions, mares, etc), mountain /trail training, horse sales, lessons, limited clinics.

Wild Rose Icelandic Horse Farm Description

Wild Rose Icelandic Horse Farm is a picturesque farm located near the Rocky Mountains of Alberta Canada. We offer a variety of services including starting and training of young horses, training and showing of breeding horses, trail riding training, mountain riding training, gait training, and problem solving training with horses that have become difficult due to pain issues or human error. We also offer horse sales, lessons and do clinics on a limited basis. The main focus of the training here for young horses and trail horses is to encourage a people loving and trusting partner that trys to please it's rider, that trusts it's rider and has experience with many of the usual hazards in everyday life. For the show horses our main goals are to train horses that show to their best capabilities with large supple steps, high lift and lots of speed and strength while still remaining soft and light on the bit, solid in their dressage work and rideable by their owners. We do not push the horses past the point of ruining them like many trainers. We firmly believe that building up the horse properly is the key to their best performance. Danielle Fulsher(Walton) and Kyle Walton run this beautiful farm in Alberta. Kyle is the man behind the scenes for everything from fixing and maintaining the trucks to helping with the horses and maintaining the farm. Danielle who is the farm manager and head trainer, has been riding consistently since 1985 and started training Icelandic horses professionally in 1998. Since then she has trained horses all over Canada, in the US and has recently returned from a 3 year stay in Iceland. While in Iceland, Danielle worked with numerous FT trainers and had the opportunity to work with and train for some of the very top riders and Landsmot winners. She has extensive experience working with young horses and problem horses using patience and calming positive methods. A trainer in Iceland nick named her 'the Canadian horse whisperer' because of her ability to settle and befriend untouched wild horses in a very short period of time. She has also ridden many horses in breeding shows and competitions in Iceland and Canada. In 2001, Danielle trained and rode Erill fra Sperdi to the first prize status of 8. 13 which set the record as the first North American trainer to train an Icelandic horse to first prize status. As well in 2015 Danielle trained Blika 08 fra Fitjamyri to first prize status with 8. 42 for ridden abilities. Blika is now one of the highest scored domestic bred horses in Canada. Blika also has the second highest score for ridden abilities in North America. Danielle was also the chosen rider to represent Blika at the 2015 World Championships in Herning Denmark for team Canada in the 7 year old + breeding mares class and five gait.
In 2006 while training horses in Iceland, Danielle won the intermediate four gait finals at Islandsmot on a 5 year old five gaited problem horse who 3 months before had no lift, pacy tolt and bolted and bucked with his riders. 3 months of loosening up and problem solving his people hating issues created a talented five gaited competition horse that loved to work and loved people. This added on to a list of many other achievements. Not only in competition, but also with young or "problem horses". Danielle is a certified Badge Program Level 1 and 2 and was also on the Canadian Icelandic Horse Federation Board of Directors.

A moment of peace. It was a beautiful evening for a ride with my best girl. ❤ Her hoof beats are somehow soothing while the sun painted the sky. #horsesoficeland #icelandichorses #peacefulmoments #beinthemoment #sunset #lovemyjob #mybestgirl #silverdapple #wildroseicelandichorsefarm

Why miss out on the whole experience. Bringing your horse in, brushing, tacking up, etc. is how you build a relationship with your horse. The horse is not a vehicle to hop on and hop off. They are a living, breathing soul. Live and breath with them. ❤️

Out on the trail for a 10mile ride just before this mess of nastyness blew in. I love my Manadís. She was on auto pilot for alot of this ride while I enjoyed the last of the fall leaves. 😊 You know that feeling when your horse just understands that your brain is needing a little zen time with nature and she says yup don't worry, I got this. ❤ #hearthorse #bestfriend #moongoddess #silverdapple #queenofthefarm #albertacoldfront #fallride #ridinghorseextraordinare #wildroseicelandichorsefarm

Distance riding is a great sport. Whether its endurance or ctr. I love the open friendlyness with everyone. People are relaxed and happy competiting in distance riding. Endurance is great bc you can ride your own ride. With my horses that are just starting out in distance, I can ride nice and slow walking alot and staying at a slow medium speed. Building them up with time and miles. With 6 hours to finish 25 miles, theres plenty of time to enjoy the trail. There are also intr...o rides where you get the vet checks and everything but your ride is only 10-15miles long. So at a regular speed of walking and tolting/trotting, you can finish in 1.5-2hours or more. Ctr has to be ridden a little faster to complete in the time allowed but again there is that lovely relaxed atmosphere of people eager to help or advise. Both give a rider a great feeling of freedom. The excitement in the morning, ready to hit the trail. The adventure awaits. Finding your way through new and sometimes challenging terrain to get to your destination. Trusting your horse and the relationship you develop with them is beyond the norm. You learn new things about your partner despite maybe having your horse for many years. You come to know their heart rate better than your own. And that feeling of walking across the finish, looking at your horse, knowing you did it. You both completed the ride together. Its a unique sport where there are milage riders(ride to high milage counts of 10,000 miles and more over many years with the same partner and often finish mid pack) and endurance racers(ride fast to win) Depending on the person and the horse, each rider rides their own ride. The icelandic horses were bred to do this and still do this in Iceland rounding up sheep or going on trekks. I have found that they do very well at distance riding. Hrima and I placed in almost every ctr ride we went to. So if you have an Icelandic horse and love trail riding, give endurance or ctr a try. Its a great way to ride some lovely trails, make new friends, to have a destination, give yourself a challenge and a learning opportunity into your horses health. 😊 #icelandicdistancerider #ourversitilehorses #A2B #horsesoficeland #icelandicsrock #trydistanceriding #metabolicallyawesome #icelandicstrong #endurance #CTR #toughonthetrail #wildroseicelandichorsefarm

Fall hit us full force with cold rain and snow which has made things challenging for the horses. They went from heavier summer coats and 20c to just above freezing and cold rain and wet snow within a few days. And this weather has stayed with us for the month of Sept. Alberta has had record amounts of snow for this month. The horses had a hard time growing their coats quickly enough to deal with this drastic change so we let them be for a week to acclimatize. It just shows how amazing they are in dealing with our extreme climate. Their coats grew 2 inches longer in one week and are now very furry for this time of year. Just in time though. 20cm of snow on the way for the next couple of days.

Andi is almost ready to find his special person! He is a good solid 7 year old gelding. 13.3hh, lower to medium energy horse. Very sweet to work with. He nickers when he sees us coming with the halter. He has very well separated gaits. Great on the trails. He is use to traffic, cows, offroad vehicles, tarps, dragging a sled, water crossings etc. He loads and trailers well. Good with having his feet done, shots, etc. He has talent to be a competition horse as well with his big stride and nice movement. His is a son of first prize stallion Erill fra Sperdli. He is soft and supple and knows his leg yielding, softening to rein pressure, and other fun cues. Please let us know if you are interested in him. 😊 #horsesforesale #icelandichorsesforsale #erilloffspring #wildroseicelandichorsefarm #goodtraining #softandsupple #trailhorse

Typical Alberta weather. The girls headed out on a trail ride in sunny weather, and then a cold front came up out of nowhere and soaked them with heavy rain, hail and high winds. 🙄 Luckily they survived with smiles still intact. #funintherainandhail #toughthroughweatherhell #albertaweather #icelandicsstickitout #erilloffspring #wildroseicelandichorsefarm

Wonderful horses, wonderful trainer, wonderful farm...

Wild Rose Icelandic Horse Farm is one of my favorite places on earth. The farm is surrounded by trees and it is a peaceful place. Danielle is an amazing trainer who is caring and patient with the horses and also honest with their owners. She understands the horses and knows what is best for each individual horse, using positive reinforcement and suppling. I learned a lot from her about riding and training horses. Thanks to her, I fell in love with many beautiful animals.

When I was getting ready to go on a first-time riding adventure in Iceland, I found Danielle and WRIHF. It was the best experience I have ever had with horses and I learned to love the Icelandics so much. Danielle is a wonderful patient teacher as well as skilled horsewoman and trainer, and I loved working with her and Skvetta. In fact, I went back twice as we had a second trip to Iceland a year later! It was a great experience in a fabulous location and I would totally recommend this learning experience for all riders. Icys are the best!

User

I wholeheartedly recommend Wild Rose Icelandic and Danielle Fulsher Walton. Danielle is not only a lovely and talented horse trainer, but she is a horse lover. This is evident in the care and respect for her horses. Danielle does not push harder than they can handle, trusts and listens to them, understands their unique personalities, and looks for the best fit home to sell horses into. What a wonderful way to set a horse up for a long and happy future.

Through out the purchase, Danielle has communicated in a timely manner with complete information. She has been generous with advice and knowledge on every topic imaginable. Danielle has provided her ongoing support after my horse’s arrival in his new home.

I’m glad I made the trip to Wild Rose Icelandic Farm - it was well worth it. When I’m looking for my next Icelandic, Danielle will be my first phone call.

I was fortunate enough to own a horse started by Danielle (Tinna) and she was an amazing mare. I also took another mare to her for training, and could not have been happier with the results. A lovely, competent, kind trainer. I cannot recommend her highly enough!

I bought my horse Vordis in December, 2016 from Wildrose Icelandic Horse Farm.

Danille started Vordis when she was a 4 year old, and brought out this horse's amazing personality and spirit, while getting her in shape, soft and foreward thinking.

When I met Danielle, I took a couple of lessons, I really took a lot way with me from those 2 lessons.

I hope we can have Danielle come to Minnesota for clinic in 2018, as she has a great eye and respect for both the horse and the rider.

Thank you Danielle, I know my adventures with this wonderful mare are going to be amazing.

User

I am SO happy your sight is up and running again Danielle. I think of you often ..... as i ride the 2 mares you did the training on and I am being completely and utterly honest that I would be hard pressed to get a horse who has been started ( or trained) by someone else Your honesty is amazing and that in and of itself is HUGE ( to have) in the horse world . So many, unfortunately are not. And how you train and listen and soften the horse is also amazing. Both mares i got from you were so soft when they came. SO soft. I strive to keep them that way, every time i get on their back or do ground work. They broke the mold with you dear friend and trainer and lover of the HORSE . ❤ 🙂

User

Danielle’s integrity and support is exceptional. Her passion for Icelandic Horses health and well-being sets the standard! If or when I’m in the market for another horse I will contact Danielle.

User

Danielle is an excellent trainer. She has the feel, understanding and compassion with horses that not many trainers have. She has proven her ability many times over in training my horses to national and international levels.
