Wimborne Alliance Church Description

Wimborne is located 5 miles north of Hwy 27 on Secondary Hwy 805, not far from Torrington. Once a thriving center, Wimborne is now a quiet settlement with about 40 residents, and boasts a small post office, an busy community hall, mechanic’s shop and an active Alliance church.

Wimborne Alliance church began as a series of Bible Studies held in several local schoolhouses in 1927 by a Miss A. B. Rose. During the 30’s the church moved into town and a manse was moved into the lot by the church for the pastor and his family. The church officially become part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in 1945, and much evangelism of the local area became the focus, and many souls were saved. The church grew in the 50’s and 60’s, and in 1970 after much work and sacrifice the present building was dedicated. In the decades that followed, the church ministered faithfully to the community and was active in supporting missions worldwide. Wimborne Alliance is beginning to breathe new life after a difficult season, reflecting cultural trends over the past several years, and there is renewed hope for taking the gospel to a new generation of people both locally and globally.

As part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, Wimborne Alliance is made up of a diverse group of people, from life-long Alliance people to those from other denominations. Binding this resilient group of believers together is a fierce dedication to Jesus Christ, The Holy Scriptures and the local church. We are passionate about the study of Scripture with a view to submitting ourselves to its (and ultimately God’s) authority, and look to it as “divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice” as our statement of faith reads.

Wimborne Alliance averages about 40 people on Sunday morning with a good representation from most age groups. We have Sunday School for all ages before the worship service. The adult Sunday School typically studies the text for the sermon to gain additional insight and background. The Children’s Sunday School is working its way through a multi-year curriculum designed to teach a Biblical perspective through Bible study, stories and crafts. Our Teen Sunday School class is always finding ingenious ways to incorporate Biblical truth into daily life.

Our worship service is fairly simple, with many people taking part. We have congregational singing, with occasional special music, Scripture reading, Prayer and Praise time, Kid’s Minute and a Biblically based sermon by the pastor or guest speaker. The worship time consists of singing a variety of types of songs from hymns and choruses to contemporary praise, and new hymns depending on the worship team. We occasionally have a potluck lunch (for which we are renown! ) and enjoy a time of fellowship.
